A Season on the Blink!
Got to admit that in 50 plus years as a fan of the Pacers and professional basketball I've never seen a team with so many injuries. Nearly everyone on the team has been hurt, 37 different starting line ups guys missing most of the year and some all of the year. From TJ Warren to Edmund Sumner right off the bat to Brogdan and Turner missing most of the 2nd half of the year. Sabonis and Caris "Patient Zero" LeVert both traded, will next season be better? Who knows.
I contend that LeVert brought some kind of Injury Virus to the team when the Pacers traded for him back in the 2020-21 season. Call it the LeVert affect as soon as he gets to the Cavs they lose Allen and later Mobley!
Enough about LeVert, the Pacers need to get some tough durable players and get rid of the guys who can't stay healthy. So let's trade Brogdan and anyone who can't play and get back to winning. I've never been more disappointed with the Pacers than this season.

I have trouble believing that one can know in advance that a player will or won't be injured.

Re: A Season on the Blink!
I think this season was a cleansing event. I didn’t think the projected lineup of Brogdan, Levert, Warren, Turner and Sabonis worked. I thought one of Turner or Sabonis had to be moved for value. If it took this disaster of a season to convince management to move on, it was worth it. In Halliburton and a top FRP I’m optimistic that we might have the two best building blocks in the teams history. Add in Turner, Duarte and Jackson and the rebuild has a really nice foundation. I’m a lot more excited about that than I was about the plan the Pacers were trying to execute last fall.

You may be correct about that line up but we never got to see them play together. As for trading Sabonis he clearly as the one to bring the most value back, especially after Turner got hurt. Trading LeVert for Rubio and the picks looks like a great move but now Cleveland is in danger of falling out of the playoffs and we may end up with a 2023 pick or 2 crappy 2nds.
If we draft well with Hali and the other young players we could have the building blocks of a good team. I'd try like hell to trade Brogdan and hold on to Hield for now maybe some team will pay a premium for his shooting come the next dead line.

Re: A Season on the Blink!
I found the start of the season a bit surreal with how many close contests lost were lost.
Then injuries hit and again not enough talent to overcome even while other teams were affected by Covid. Then it was our turn for Covid absences.
More injuries and the season was now doomed and the tank became a bit more realistic. Then the trade deadline and boom more injury and still the new talent couldn’t overcome.
Strangest season I recall because I never got that feeling that this team is horrible. They were good enough to stay in most games but couldn’t put any fear into the opponents to consistently win.
As someone else said we’ve got a great new foundation for next season and with a great draft and more calculated roster moves we’re on a path back to the 5-8 playoff contention. Then hopefully we can mature our young talent into steady winning contributors and continue to build a stronger roster.

I have a feeling that we'll move Brogdan and maybe Hield in the off season. Then 2022-23 we'll win about 30 games and get another top pick. If the team can survive and the fans can stand it getting another top pick and maybe the Cavs pick, maybe some value from the trades of Brogdan and Hield will bring more talent for the future and we'll get back to winning in 23-24.

Re: A Season on the Blink!
Agree that they should move Brogdon’s contract then if Warren is not their man they definitely need to spend $$ at the 3 and 4 positions.
Would love to have Jalen Smith back at that bargain price, but it really is up to him if he wants to grow his game more here or wants a bigger payday regardless of the team.
Unsure what they’re going to do with Rubio as they have his bird rights. Guess it depends on what he wants $$ and where he’s wanting to play.
Also have to look at Edmund Sumner on the cheap if they make a multi player trade and need an NBA experienced roster filler.

The way Brogdan’s name has been kick around in trade rumors makes me wonder if he and the Pacers have agreed to move on. It would be nice if Pacers can harvest some value from him. In his time here he has performed to his reputation, injured a lot. Logic would seem to dictate that trend will get worse with age. Based on trades that have been suggested he has positive value. Would we say the same thing next year at this time?
As for Heild, would you rather see us throw minutes his way in hopes of juicing his value or see guys like Taylor or Washington get that run?

I see Hield fitting in better than Brogdon. It's all about Hali. CCooper podcast worth a listen. I'm half way through it.

Re: A Season on the Blink!
I was more disappointed in last season than this season tbh. I had high hopes for last season with a newer offense, more hope to see Oladipo and Warren and Sabonis all on the court at once.
This year I had a lot less reason to think the team would be good. So while the team is worse, my disappointment level is not as high. I tuned in some at the beginning of the year, but as soon as things turned South I was kinda like eh whatever.

The 2020-21 season was plagued by injuries as well. It really seems like some kind of virus that causes pulled hammy's and twisted ankles and broken feet.

Re: A Season on the Blink!
Totally agree. Last year had more promise despite us getting a massive coaching upgrade. The Vic saga really just played out disappointingly though in hindsight we dodged a bullet.boomershadow wrote:I was more disappointed in last season than this season tbh. Re: A Season on the Blink!
Best season ever since I became Pacer fan.
Finally the Pacers will go fighting without a limp leg, arm, eye or whatever. Finally a chance to play with top talent you need to win playoffs series.
The total mess Pritchard created might actually save him, because ironically the franchise needed a total mess to escape the hostage mediocrity installed by Simon.
