How many FRPs do we add to complete the deal?

Bucks improve their bench, we get cut some salary and get DDV

You must think highly of Divincenzo.

I do, I think he can be a very good role player, the type that everything winning team covets, the type whose impact doesn't show up on the box score

I have a feeling that 2 or 3 years from now, he will be the best player among everyone in that trade

I would love to keep Goga too, but I felt that Bucks needed more in that trade. If Pacers are overpaying in that trade, I'd be more than happy to do it without Goga and put Leaf in instead

It was more the “how many frp does Indy add” line that shocked me.

I like him a good amount, but part of me wonders how much of his shine is the Bucks boat kind of lifting him up on its tide. Similar to Crowder in Miami or whatnot.

I see what you mean

I was thinking that protections can always be haggled into FRPs

Not Indiana related specifically, but Zach Lowe mentioned on his recent Lowe Post podcast that teams are antsy to pull some moves and we should see a crazy flurry here when transactions open up and with the shortened offseason.

So antsy that we can sneak a Leaf for cap space trade into some big deal without anyone noticing? With the tax line where it's at, seems we really really could use that space barring someone decent being left with nothing more than vet min deals and us promising minutes.

Realistically, I see us tagging Leaf onto maybe McDermott or McConnell in a trade for salary matching, but only if we have a deal locked up with Justin to return and replace McDermott as the bench SF. A Doug/Leaf/54 (maybe some of the Miami 2nds?) to LA for Javale/Cook/28 would save about $4.5m, and maybe we could even send Javale elsewhere for cap space, or a better fit. Who knows. Or Doug/Leaf to Philly for Scott/Smith/34? That would save around $3.5m immediately, and maybe Smith is easier to dump with 54 and the future Miami 2nds if we don't see a future for him?

Ultimately, I'm just mostly saying that we likely have to look at uneven salary matching to dump Leaf rather than pay 2nds straight up.

Yeah that's likely the route we have to go. Which is unfortunate if it means losing Doug in the process. If we can get a late first or early 2nd I'm fine value-wise, but would like to see Doug with a more structured offense and wait at least until the deadline to see if we can realistically resign him.

Oh, absolutely. I'm likely overrating Justin's absurdly awesome 3 point shooting from last year combined with his defense, and minimizing the potential loss of Doug in an actual offensive system.

Oh man. A TON of good info in this JMichael article. Worth reading the whole way through. No answers, but a ton of background info on what happened with Oladipo this past year and the fissures in the locker room.

Two way players could be counted upon more this year than ever before.

Important to keep in mind if we feel the need with TJ Leaf, or maybe if we receive someone via trade.

Our only decision is on Alize Johnson. Issue a QO and he’ll be restricted and we’d have rights to match, but it would be an offer of $1.82m.

Even if we don’t tender the qualifying offer, we would still have early bird rights on him, but would have the ability to sign him for the vet minimum, which would save us around $300k.

If we keep Alize and everyone except Sampson, can we give JHolla a competitive deal and still have room under the tax to buy and sign a pick in the 20s? 30s?

musa had workout with the pacers before the draft, cause they wanted to take a closer look at him

Legion Hoops is absolutely not a reputable source to this point.

But yes, we had interest pre draft in Musa as a draft and stash candidate. I would imagine our call has been straight up for TJ Leaf to save money.

We’re $5.8m under the tax, so minimum of $1.5m each for Alize and Jakarr leaves us $2.8m under the tax. But a pick in the 2nd (that cash is separate from the salary cap/luxury tax), and that salary would be around $950k, so Justin Holidays best offer from us would be a vet minimum.

If we are to try and keep Justin, as is reported, we ABSOLUTELY have to cut salary somehow, by quite a bit.

Then I wouldn't hate trading Vic to a team with cap room or a big trade exemption if only to move on.
