Re: 2024 NBA Draft thread (Workouts, scouting, prospects)
We did not pick a center and we could not have expected Oscar to have achieved more than league MVP. He's got to have secured a spot somewhere. Do we need to chose between Furphy and K brown? I'd like to keep both.
I'd guess Wong and Jackson are done. Does that leave enough room for the other two picks?

K Brown is on the roster already currently. Furphy most likely is placed on the roster now. That leaves Jalen Smith, Doug McDermott, and J Johnson as decisions. Most likely Jalen opts out and becomes a free agent, leaving McDermott and JJ spots in question for potential cheap upgrades. If cash strapped they possibly could promote Oscar into one of the last 2 spots.
I’m guessing the 3 two way players will most likely be Oscar Tshiebwe, Tristen Newton, and Enrique Freeman.

Don’t forget about Mojave King, y’all. He’s likely going to get one of the Two-Ways now that he’s healthy. It’s going to be crowded.
My way too early guess? Furphy a main roster deal. Kendall Brown, Oscar Tshiebwe, and Quinten Jackson compete for one (or two) roster spots on the main roster, and Mojave King, Newton, and Freeman get the Two Ways? Wong just gets cast out into free agency to find his own way?
Of course, things could clearly change if someone proves not worthy at all, but that’s my gut right now? If Stix opts in, that would leave us with 13, possibly 14 main roster spots for next year. If he’s out, well, one less.

Re: 2024 NBA Draft thread (Workouts, scouting, prospects)
According to Spotrac,... we currently have 12 players under contract (with Stix opt'ed in). [Siakim, Halliburton, Turner, Nesmith, McConnell, Mathurin, Walker, Smith, Jackson, Sheppard, Brown, Nembhard] I'm guessing that Doug is gone... We resign Ob1 & JJ? We have 14 under contract (minimum roster numbers). That would leave us with 1 roster spot & 3, 2 ways.
Everything I've read suggests that Stix is gonna opt out,... which would leave us with 2 roster spots & 3, 2 ways.
I believe that Quenton Jackson & Gabe York are gone. Leaves Wong, King, Tshiebwe, Furphy, Newton, & Freeman. I think the battle is between Wong & Newton to see who will be the 'emergency point guard'. For me,.. that's gonna be Newton. Wong likely gets signed to a G-league contract. Furphy gets signed to a second round, regular roster contract. Newton & Freeman are 2 ways,... with a battle between Oscar & King for the regular roster spot. The other ending up on a 2-way.
Boy,.. summer league is really going to be interesting this year!

Re: 2024 NBA Draft thread (Workouts, scouting, prospects)
my best guess is that JJ is not signed in the summer and his spot is taken by a non-guaranteed development type. K-Brown is also not guaranteed at the beginning of the season. as the guarantee dates approach, we can decide who is worth keeping and if a roster spot opens up then JJ can return.

Re: 2024 NBA Draft thread (Workouts, scouting, prospects)
Wanted to get some context for this conversation,... so looked up the standard G-league contract,.. for 2022,.. the latest year I could find,.. that contract is 7400 per month for the 5 month season,.. or $37,000. They are one year contracts, signed with the league, & not any specific team. (If I have this right?....)
Is it just me,... or is anyone else really underwhelmed by this?.... if this is the structure, how does the NBA plan on teams being able to use the G-league as a minor league, or development league? like EU Football, or Baseball?...

It’s up to $40,500, which still isn’t great, but many guys can supplement it with overseas work in the offseason. This is also why the “exhibit 10” shuffle is so important. Teams can give players an exhibit 10 bonus of up to (roughly) $77,750* if they end up playing for that teams G-League affiliate for a minimum amount of days (I think 50?).
*started as $75k last year and will rise annually commensurate to the rise in the salary cap

Thanks Scoot,... it just makes me wonder, How Silver ever expects the G-league to be a viable, lower tier league with that level of commitment from the parent league?.... NIL now significantly out pays G-League. I guess this hit me like a slap in the face,... it seems to show the level of immediate greed in the NBA & NBAPA offices? smh,....

I think, especially shown with the closure of G League Ignite team, that the nba is ecstatic for NIL and to let colleges carry the costs of developing talent for 1-3 extra years.

LeBron said he wants to buy a team in Vegas?... he could buy an entire league,.. all over the country & grow it into a viable, money making enterprise,... might even be able to vertically expand it into the 'grassroots' network & have a development program similar to the Fussball teams in Europe?.... that would do more for anyone's legacy in this game than some in-season tournament, or even league expansion. It wouldn't be as 'flashy',.. but it would have a greater, longer lasting impact,... at least IMO,...

I had no idea that Mojave King was in the equation after missing most of the season last year due to injury. I’m not familiar with his game. Is he better than the 3 new rookies ?

Really don’t know

Just pointing out that he was also a 2nd rounder from last year that they were waiting on.
