Roster Update after stretching and waiving

Haliburton, McConnell, Nembhard
Hield, Mathurin
Duarte, Nesmith
Smith, Brissett, Taylor, K Brown
Turner, Jackson, Theis, Bitadze

13 signed now with no 2 ways
2 future signings of Brown and Nembhard in some fashion.

K Brown belongs at 3 not 4. put him behind Nesmith not Taylor.

I think a Turner trade must be in the works even though we didn't use it to get the cap room for the Ayton offer.

Maybe if they don’t get Ayton they send Turner and TJ to Nate for Capella and Collins who they have tried to move

Unless we trade Turner for two smaller contracts. The roster bottom will be interesting with 3 firsts to make space for in a year.

Was it necessary for Pacers to waive them before seeing whether Suns match?

Feels like they should have just waited

They had to be waived to clear salary space in order to legally make the offer. You can't make a $30M offer if you only have $28M in space.

So no TPE’s unless they can still get one this season ?

No TPE’s because they went under the salary cap. We have cap space instead of TPE’s.

Teams will find our cap space.

Let's make the most of it and get some more under the radar quality talent.

Well I'm more than happy to take Wiggins if Warriors don't want to pay tax

Wiggins was arguably Warriors 2nd best player. I’d be really surprised if they traded him into cap space.

Who gets discarded next summer to make room for draftees? Turner? Hield? Goga? Washington's replacement? McConnell?

Saving a slot, I want to hold onto all 3 firsts. There is a chance NIL leads to a lowering of the age requirement putting 2 high school classes into the pool.

A lot will depend on if the Pacers have a dreadful season and become a lottery team again. Let’s face it our talent is sooo very young in NBA experience as well as age. As hard as they try we might just still not have enough great talent to contend night in and night out. Especially if Turner is gone.

We do tend to over value our own talent as we see that Brogdon’s market was dog poo and Phoenix didn’t think enough of Turner to avoid the luxury tax.

The presumed injury risk is killing Turner’s value league wide making our return on him Jack squat. Of course as soon as he’s traded he’s going to be like gold to the acquiring team. Just like the Celtics will revive Brogdon’s worth pairing him with their 2 studs.

So I say if we suck again, but still like our youth then the Pacers combine our 3 firsts to move up to get a lottery stud. Then you’re not adding 3 young players to the mix again just 1.

Miami, Boston, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, Toronto, and Chicago the top 6 Eastern conference teams did nothing to get weaker. 7 and 8 are an improved New York and Cleveland. 9 and 10 are Washington and
Atlanta. Playoff spots all taken.

This leaves 2 teams in temporary chaos Brooklyn and Charlotte who were ahead of us in the top 10 last season who could still be better than the Pacers. Orlando who has a huge amount of young talent and Detroit which I feel is still going to struggle.

Doesn’t look promising to be out of the lottery folks.

In the Western conference Phoenix, Memphis, Golden State, and Dallas have done nothing to get worse. Minnesota is improved adding Gobert, Denver, LA Clippers, and New Orleans all get back injured stars. Eight playoff spots filled.

That leaves a possibly improved Portland, and the LA Lakers trying to get in.

Hard to tell at this point how improved Sacramento will be. San Antonio youthful always plays well for Pop.

Houston and OKC very young and coming.

Utah who really knows but probably tanking hard.

So that leaves 5 youthful teams Houston, OKC, Detroit, Orlando, and Indiana plus a rebuilding Utah as the bottom 6 lottery bound teams.

Call me skeptical but it’s gonna take another tanking year for the Pacers because they just haven’t done enough yet to acquire enough talent to sniff the playoffs. Besides the youth needs a year of seasoning and playing together to gel.

But won't whoever the team drafts next year also need another year to gel? Which will lead to another season of tanking, which will allow them to draft another lottery prospect, who will again need another season to gel with the team

Indeed and that is why they’re going to have to add a veteran or two until our youth become veterans.

The Pacers still need a real SF, most of the guys we have are big SG's playing SF.
