Through early season injuries and a tough early schedule due to the trip over seas playing the Spurs an early season struggle turned into a great playoff run by season’s end. A very competitive and challenging run and a rewarding season. The Pacers as a team gave it their best shot all season long to get here tonight. A lot of magical moments and good performances to cheer about and be thankful for. One of the most exciting Pacers teams I remember even though less talented due to their age. Many years left for most of these players to grow into better NBA talent.
I’m really torn on what players should be back next season due to the disappointing result of this game and the losses in this series. Yes the Thunder were the better team but the Pacers played hard to make the series competitive. Much better effort than the 0-4 Celtics series sweep in last years playoffs.
Since the celebration of our playoff season is now over it’s time to hope that the front office can make great decisions for the future of this franchise. I’m yearly a speculating fan with hopes for new players to get for team improvement and moving on from those that can find their fit elsewhere. I once again have very mixed feelings about what personnel changes need addressed. We must put a team on the court that rebounds better and continues to improve defensively as that is needed to continue to play the style of fast paced game we’ve been playing. At times this season depending upon the players on the court the team struggled to score and that is a problem.
Unfortunately tonight was not a good night for contributions from Turner, Nesmith, or Toppin. Conversely Haliburton, Mathurin, Siakam, and McConnell left it all out there. It just wasn’t enough tonight.
Besides the obvious of losing Tyrese our turnovers played a huge role in losing this game 21-7 in favor of the Thunder. McConnell with 7, Mathurin with 3, and Toppin with 3 hurt a lot. The Thunder probably turned them into a lot of points besides momentum and crowd noise. I’m not going to argue that the referees were bad because I thought most of the series was tough sledding for the Pacers and maybe if the Pacers someday are the league’s best record they will get the same bias against whomever is our challenger. The Thunder have done a great job in building their team no doubt and props to them. I of course like SGA(except for his fore arm push off to create shots, and Chet’s abilities as a young big man. I will most likely never like Lou Dort or Alex Caruso because of their rough play that for some reason the referees league wide ignore. They’ve got some bench depth but also it appears that there’s a good team vibe of togetherness like the Pacers built this season. Congrats OKC.
This die hard Pacer fan is taking this loss hard right now.
