The Indiana Pacers don't have cap space despite Myles Turner leaving.
They can get a starting center with the $14.1 million non-tax mid-level or in a trade.
They'll stay below the luxury tax in all likelihood.

In terms of the cap mechanics of how Milwaukee will pull this off:
Waive and stretch Damian Lillard.
Sign Tauren Prince with the minimum exception.
Sign Gary Trent Jr. and Kevin Porter Jr. into the room exception.
Right now, that leaves Milwaukee with $19.6 million in cap room. They likely will get to the $24 million they need to sign Myles Turner to a four-year, $107 million deal by moving off of Pat Connaughton's $9.3 million salary.
In the absence of a Connaughton trade, Milwaukee can get to $24.6 million in cap room by stretching Connaughton's contract, so that seems the most likely mechanism for this deal to get done. Milwaukee will also need to either pull its qualifying offer to Ryan Rollins or waive Chris Livingston to get there.
It appears the Bucks will just barely exceed the limit on stretched salary if they stretch Connaughton in addition to Lillard, unless there is a buyout agreement with one or both to reduce salary. Another alternative may be to trade Connaughton for a lower-salaried player and then buy that player out at a reduced number. For instance, Milwaukee could trade Connaughton to the Clippers for Drew Eubanks, buy Eubanks out at half of his $4.75 million presuming he'd make the rest up on the market, and stretch that amount.
Also, note that Lillard cannot re-sign in Milwaukee in 2026, if you were thinking that was a possibility.
Side note: if they move off of Green, Livingstone, & Jackson, who all have 0 guaranteed for 25-26, that comes to 6,744,941,.. which gives them enough to get to the amount to sign Myles,....
reorder the Prince signing until after they execute everything else, and that's "free cap space", since hes signing with the vet minimum.

I've only been skimming the responses, but I'll pile on. This sucks. The playoff run was so fun and Tyrese getting hurt in the final was really deflating. There was just no hope that you'd get a repeat run right away. Now, losing Myles just really solidifies that. We've had pretty solid management over the years so I'm still optimistic they can reload in a gap year, but this is rough. That pricetag is reasonable and I was hopeful Myles would want to stay. He's definitely aging and slowing down vs what he was defensively, but his offense has improved and he's definitely a guy that never got the hype of the unicorn Porzingis types, but kind of did all those same things.
We don't have a single center right now right?

So,.... now,... we start Bradley? or resign Bryant? We get a center on the free-market worth 14M,... or we make a trade for a 5? (as the post above said),... but if we trade for a center,... even one much cheaper than Myles,.... we would have to trade the same people,...that trading before FA, would have allowed us to keep Myles?
But the other post was right as well,... we can now extend Benn,... and likely not go into the tax?
Side note: another story this morning, said the Ayton gave back 10M in the buyout? If he & his agent are forecasting that as his FA-market value? Maybe? He did mention the Pacers in very glowing terms, when interviewed for the same article?

I didn't expect this and even unsubscribed yesterday from a local podcast when he said Myles wasn't worth resigning at market value. but I do understand why we'd punt a bit on 2025-26 with no Tyrese. this makes keeping Obi and Benn much easier.

+100,...
Feels like another gut-punch for Pacers fans,..... It will get better with time,... but still feels like it. and 'Star Wars' night isn't going to be so much fun,... unless the Bucks are visiting & Myles comes dressed as Vader,..... (ok,.. trying to find some humor,... trying,...)
Right now,... we have exercised the option on Tony Bradley for next year,... he's our only center currently under contract.

Re: Shams: Turner agrees to terms with BUCKS
So,... if I get past the gut-punch,... and look at our history, and what our FO has done recently?.... It could just be that we don't want to go into the tax? and other moves to make the cap sheet work, weren't working? Everyone knew we would have to trade someone to sign Myles & stay under the tax. So, nobody was willing to take on OB? or Benn?
I would be really disappointed with this, if it's true,... but it is consistent with our history?
We as fans never know everything that is happening. To give our ownership & FO the benefit of the doubt,... there could also be something or things that we don't yet know, that make this a 'right' decision? Not going to speculate,... but going to leave the door open that there could be other things that also drive this set of decisions by our teams management?

SMH.so now we need somebody like Turner. We are cheap. I assumed 3yrs at 75 million. I would have rather traded Siakam and hope now we do..We got close but its over now.SMH

Re: Shams: Turner agrees to terms with BUCKS
How far is Jackson with his recovery?
And is it possible to resign Wiseman?
Another interesting option Al Horford?
I don’t want a player like Ayton who is cut because of work ethics.

I agree with you on Ayton,... I am not a fan.
Horford could be interesting,.. for around 20 minutes a night with less than 82 games. He doesn't have enough in the tank for anything else (a couple of articles about his FA have actually said that & said that is what he wants)
Wiseman, frankly, was a disaster when he was healthy,... not for a 3rd string center that you might have to play occasionally, but for a starter,... he couldn't defend anyone, and his post offense deserted him at most critical times.
Jackson's recovery was forecast to last most of 25-26. Haven't seen an update,... he could be do back early?... but the original word was don't expect to see him at all until the trade deadline in 26,... and don't expect him to be the same as soon as he gets back?

Re: Shams: Turner agrees to terms with BUCKS
Bradley is under contract. Isaiah Jackson has a qualifying offer, so we’ll likely extend him long term now.
At that point, especially if we extend Mathurin, and the cap only rises 7% instead of 10%, we’re flirting with the tax? With no real answer at long term center.

I say we go full knucklehead and sign both Ayton and Mo Bamba. I guarantee that one of them will win Most Improved Player with the Pacers because usually somebody does.

Re: Shams: Turner agrees to terms with BUCKS
If IJax isn’t ready to start the season I wouldn’t mind trading for Nick Richard ($5m) or signing a Mo Wagner type. I’m sure Horford will want to latch on with a contender and I’d prefer we bring in centers that have a chance to eventually play with Hali.
Ayton does have some work ethic red flags but also think his situation in Portland was pretty bad. If the FO believes in him and he wants a reasonable contract I’d think he would absolutely be worth a flyer. He was offered the max based on his time playing with CP3 so I’d think he would very interesting with Hali feeding him.

really makes we question not taking a center at 38 or even 54.
