Looks like trading Brogdon + LeVert for Simmons shaves another $6m off the payroll, bringing Pacers to about $19m below tax

$19m should be enough to bring back both TJ and Doug

So for practical purposes, we can think of the trade as Brogdon + LeVert for Simmons + Doug

Maybe. But also take a look at the salary for the following year when TJ Warren needs re-signed and see how much you have left after signing Doug to a multi year deal for $10-12m per year.

Expected and a good thing at his cost and quickness talent. Hopefully he’s working hard on his longer range offense and play making skills to accompany his driving to the hoop.

As a 2 way player, his qualifying offer only has $50k guaranteed and can be for a two way roster spot, again.

Looks like Stanley needs to prove he belongs on the roster and off the 2 way bus in summer league. Also a strong showing might keep the Pacers from loading completely up on end of career vets or minimum salary FA types pushing him to another year of G league. I’m not convinced he can avoid G league.

On a different note I haven’t seen officially if Jackson and Duarte are playing summer league but I would be shocked if they aren’t.

I think he'll be on a two way to start the year. Crunch time is probably a year away.

We'll know about Martin by the end of the week. I have him in.

I can see JaKaar back if Doug leaves as expected. I can see a veteran point guard added instead though

what do you guys think the plans are with oshae brissett? he played well, shot well, defended, rebounded well, basically all the things you needed to see, and he's young. isnt he just a really good fit with the projected starting 5 at sf?

He’s the primary backup at the 4 to Myles Turner and appears to be part of the main rotation. We like him a lot and got him on a long term contract.

But simply put, he’s better as a 4 than a 3, and TJ Warren is just much better than him overall right now.

I'm all for the Pacers finding a veteran point guard or combo guard but I want an ace defender not a scorer.

In this year's playoffs, Lou didn't look like the Lou we have seen over the years. Maybe he is getting past his prime? He does have a lot of miles on him.

Myles, Goga
Domas, Brissett, Jackson
Warren, Justin, Martin
LeVert, Sumner
Brogdon, TJ, Duarte

Is there even room for someone like Louis Williams?

Unless he's meant to simply be the vet leader cheering the team on from the bench, because that's 13 players who I like to see getting playing time ahead of Louis Williams. Heck, throw Stanley into the list and make it 14

Yeah I like the guy, both as a player and as a person. But I'm not seeing the fit and it's giving me shades of Monta, Tyreke, etc.

Carlisle said Duarte is a 2. He can guard the 1 and 3, and in a pinch can handle some ball as a 1, but he’s going to essentially be a 2. I’m assuming Stanley is a 2 way guy for another year unless he shows out in camp and forces the team to promote him (and maybe takes Kelan Martin’s roster spot).

But yeah, I’m not seeing Lou Williams as a real answer for anything on this roster. He’s a scoring small guard. And he’s not particularly good at it right now. I’m not sure he’s a real consideration as much as a regurgitated rumor, maybe? I just shared it because Scotto isn’t completely defamed as a news source, yet.

Thinking about Lou more and the only way I could see it working is if the idea was to do a sign and trade with Lamb. We get a guy who we can maybe rely on in a pinch to provide offense, but doesn't need to play every game and can be a good lockerroom vet. It gives Lamb (potentially) a better spot for him to shine in anticipation of a new contract. And it likely gets us off some small amount of money.

Still highly highly doubtful though as that's a pretty specific scenario that doesn't even consider that Lou probably doesn't want to be in Indy.

I'd prefer a Beverley type

Interesting. I guess he could theoretically help in the “locker room vet” category that Pritchard has described. And he may be a better C/PF than Goga at this moment, but man. I’d hate pushing Goga/Oshae/Isaiah further down the line for a full season.
