Time For a New Coach!

Post#1 » by Crossova21 » Thu Apr 15, 2010 2:38 am

O'brien's gotta go. I know it'll cost money we don't have but i'm hoping he will step down for the sake of the fans. Of course tonight's game didn't mean anything but it didn't provide much hope for next season with the exception of Hibbert.

We lose most of our games throughout the season and just when everybody is starting to look foward to the John Wall lottery, the team goes on a winning streak.

BTW The last straw was taking out Hibbert one point shy of 30 points and only five fouls and putting in Dunleavy, who took an unnecessary 3 at the end of the game. Larry needs to get on the phone tonight and start thinking about what he's gonna do this summer.

Wow, you hate him whether he wins or loses. If he wins, he's not recognizing the need to tank, and he's not a good coach. If he loses, he's not a good coach.

Hibbert is a flight risk at the end of games right now. He plays slower and late game teams are going to attack him, and then he'll have fouled out and the Wiz would've taken free throws. Dunleavy had an open shot.

 He just can't seem to do anything right. When a player's hot he takes him out. When we're down one point we take a three. Eventually it gets old

I'm tired of O'Brien, but the bigger problem is that the roster contains so little talent.

50 losses...ugh. Since the Pacers were intent on winning enough meaningless games to sabotage the draft pick, it would have been nice to at least win one more and avoid that big ugly 5-0.

Oh well. On to the next business item: hoping for a miracle in the lottery.

I still have faith in Obie.. well a little lesser than last year of course. This would be year 3 of the 3 year plan of Larry and Obie, so this offseason should better be productive and a big step forward. 1 strike left for Obie, i guess.

I'm anxious about the offseason, from the trades that will likely happen now that we have a ton of expiring (and some unwanted) guys, the draft, the issue of moving out of Indy. Whew, i got a feeling this could be one of the busiest offseason in Pacers history.

It would be one of the busiest in a long time if we make more than two trades.

Unfortunately, busy doesn't always mean successful as we've seen these past two years. We've changed near half the roster, and I think that's hurt the chemistry and continuity of this team. It's one of the reasons why we always get off to slow starts until late in the season.

However, when you're rebuilding and have little talent overall, numerous changes are needed until you're set on the team you want going forward.

As for this off-season, expect more "meh" moves, more roster fillers, and more waiting around until 2011.

I still have full confidence in O'Brien and Bird.

Bird has said he believe the system isn't flawed, it's the players that are flawed, it's only easier to get rid of the coach then it is the players because of money and luxury tax, etc. But he hasn't done that, he's placed the emphesis on building a young core starting five with smarts as well as quality basketball IQ, while clearing what's nessessary to make a run at a name player come 2011.

You also have to look at Boston in the two years after O'Brien (BEFORE the Garnett/Allen trades) as well as the four years after O'Brien in the same scenerio. Look at those records and you'll see that both teams fell completely apart after O'Brien was terminated. Eddie Jordan the supposed better successor to Jim O'Brien just got canned after four years of no playoffs and an even worse win percentage then O'Brien did in one season.

Definitely, and it's still a surprise if we can patch all things up this offseason. It's a surprise, a big big surprise. But i definitely know Larry and the guys know how important this upcoming season is with the issues at hand, and their jobs are on thin ice too, so i'm leaning towards being optimistic.

The Pacers underachieved as a team this season. Hopefully this galvanizes everyone into working harder this summer and coming back with a mission. Health is a big factor. The coach less so.
