The Pacers are looking to bring in a big man's coach to work with young center Roy Hibbert.
They are still trying to figure out just who that coach might be, but Mike Wells of the Indianapolis Star says that Kevin McHale is a possibility.
Pacers assistant coach Dan Burke has worked with Hibbert a lot and he showed noticeable improvement in his season NBA season.

This is excellent news. I think McHale would be a nice fit, just keep him away from the front office.

And keep those two apart? But they're like, best friends!

I hope McHale is more than just a possibility. Make it happen!
He did a hell of a job working with Al Jefferson. I'd love for him to apply some of his knowledge and experience to Roy's game.

I value McHale's defensive knowledge. Hibbert already has a midrange jumper he can knock down when open, and his hook from both hands is impressive (he could benefit from some better positioning) and his offensive fundamentals overall are things I'm not too worried about.
I want to see McHale come in and teach Hibbert how to deal with the faster big men, the stronger big men, and how to be a better team defender against smaller players.

The Celtics Legends are coming in! I hope McHale could teach Hibbert some toughness, particularly in terms of rebounding and shotblocking.

Hopefully we bring in someone to teach our peremeter players how to stay in front of their man or how to play help side defense, so Roy doesn't have to defend those smaller players all the time when they drive right into the lane!!

^^Or we could play Dahntay. That dude has enough efficiency on offense. Obie is way too worried about spacing.

McHale taught Garnett all of his moves on offense. Hibbert could stand to learn a lot of the things that McHale can teach him. It's a lot more than just a mid-range jumper.
As long as McHale has no chance to rise in the organization and the Pacers don't have to fly him back to Hibbing every week it would be a good deal.

Of course Hibbert could learn a lot offensively from McHale, but McHale's defense I value more and I'd rather him teach that to Hibbert. Hibbert's not having as much trouble scoring as he is staying in the game and being a defensive post presence.

Hiring McHale would be a genius move by the Pacers.

I think it'd be an awesome move.

There are no cons to this at all. None. No way he takes over any front office job, so there is nothing to worry about there. Even if he coached, could it be worse than JOB?
Damn...

Beaten to the punch...
http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archi ... hias_list/We should have fired Obie and hired Laimbeer...then we'd have solved two problems with one move
1. Gotten a coach with promise and even better, sent Obie packing
2, A great big man coach for Hibbert

I want JOB gone as much as anyone, but honestly, i'm not very high on Laimbeer. Guys i really like as future coaches are Tom Thibodeau, Tyrone Corbin and Brian Shaw. I think all three will be very good coaches in the future. Shaw is very well respected and actually may be the next head coach of the Lakers so i doubt he leaves. And also, don't forget, our very own Lester Conner. Tons of experience around the league, and knows our players very well. In the game he coaches i thought we looked great. I'd prefer fresh blood but i wouldnt mind Conner.
All of this is a mute point though since we all know JOB will remain.

If we eventually go with a recycled coach I think Iavaroni (Toronto asst.) would be worth a look. He didn't have a chance with the Memphis Grizzlies and was fired way too soon. He got a lot of credit working with Nash in Pheonix, as an offensive mastermind.

Just wondering after seeing you use "mute" instead of "moot". There's a great portion of an awesome episode where they debate whether it's "mute" or "moot".
It's a "moot" point, btw.
