Jermaine O'neal

Post#1 » by Crossova21 » Tue May 25, 2010 5:40 pm

There hasn't been a lot of talk about where he'll go next year and so I was wondering if anyone would be interested in giving the money we're paying Earl Watson to bring J.O. back again.

I don't think he'll be expecting a big contract after this year's playoffs but he is exactly what the Pacers need...a veteran big man that can play defense. I think he could help Roy out as well...at least more than what Foster could offer.

A lot of people think our next point guard will come through free agency but I think we could get more value if we traded an expiring for one...perhaps revisit that Ford to Charlotte trade and grab Felton or Augustin. Then trading down to pick up someone like Bledsoe won't seem so bad.

Just a thought.

Jermaine O'Neal has already stated his desire to play for a contender.
Raymond Felton is an unrestricted free agent.
DJ Augustin would do absolutely nothing to solve our PG problem, other than being a possible backup.
Feel the rhythm! Feel the rhyme! Get on up, it's bobsled time!

Which contenders really have any use for him? Orlando maybe but I cant see them paying Lewis to ride the bench. I guess it depends on where the big name free agents go this year. I think he might consider coming back if no one else expresses interest tho.

Orlando would never pick up JO, because they are already wasting a ton of money on Gortat and Brandon Bass.

Some team will sign him, it will probably just be a matter of waiting for the major players (Lebron, Wade, etc.) to land. Then he'll pick whatever all-star coattails that he wants to ride.

That is an interesting thought, but if things go according to the "plans" then Bosh and LBJ will be in Chicago. Wade and Stoudemire or Boozer will end up in Miami and that will leave JO with what? Joe Johnson in New York? Right now, I'd rather pay Juwan Howard or Theo Ratliff over JO.

If I was New York, I'd re-sign David Lee and go after Stoudemire, Joe Johnson, and Ray Felton.

JO is not what the pacers need..they need JO when he was in his prime.

Pacers need someone to go down and do some of the nitty-gritty down low. With all his wear and tear, I'm don't think the present JO can do that.

Maybe he'll become a Thunder. OKC do need a defensive veteran inside.

I'd rather give playing time to Hansbrough, McRoberts, and the 10th pick if it's a big.

Jermaine O'Neal is near useless. In his prime he was a good defender and a great shotblocker, and a mediocre offensive player (yeah, he got the points, but it took too many tries).

Nowadays, he's a subpar defender, an okay shotblocker, and a terrible offensive player whose percentages have gotten worse.

Maybe a sign and trade sending Gortat or Bass to the Heat for JO. 8-)

It was hard to watch JO last year. Spoelstra would ride him hard on his best nights, give him 30 minutes and then JO would be useless for 2-3 after that. I think he's a 15 minute/night backup at this point - in that role I think he would be much more consistent.
I see him going to a contender and taking the vetmin to play backup. I don't see him coming in to backup a young C on the rise like Hibbert.

If we could get him in a backup role for cheap I'd love it, it'd be great for the team and the city to have our old hero back. I think the fans would love him either way and wouldn't care how he produced as long as he was in a backup role.

Yea I don't mind him coming in as a backup either. I think the point I was trying to get across is that he could be the mentor for Hibbert by showing him how to play D without fouling. Foster was no where near the shotblocker O'neal was.

It would be intersting to know what Rick Carlisle really thinks of Jermaine. Carlisle needed Jermaine to be a leader and he was anything but that once Reggie retired. The trouble with Jermaine today is you simply can't count on him to be there when you need him. That's really a problem when you are assembling a team.

Ha Ha  I love it! He's clearly not what he used to be but I'd still choose him over any of our big men we have now not named Roy Hibbert. I'd love to bring him back simply because he's a defensive-minded player and could be a mentor to Hibbert.

Explain why he would want to come here? To be loved by the fans? To contend for a playoff spot? For the money?

I like JO but there is no way he's even considering the Pacers.
