If Indy's taking on Okafor, Posey, and Peja, then we're sure as heck not giving up any picks whatsoever.

In that deal, NO is giving up Collison and the 11th as the value, and Indy's giving up NO picks.

I don't think trading for expiring contracts is what the Hornets want. They now are trying to avoid the luxury tax in the coming season, which means they are sending their packege to the teams with big salary sapce, like the Knicks, Nets or the Mavs who have Dampier's ungarunteed contract.

So, if the Pacers want to trade, there must be another team to clear up the salary for the Hornets.

This. Seems like the obvious solution to New Orleans' salary problem is to pawn off someone like Peja to an under-the-cap team that doesn't have to match salaries, using Collison as the bait.

Much as I like the thought of the Pacers getting Collison, I think there's little chance of it happening. The best the Pacers could do is to offer a trade which barely fits within the "salaries must match within 25%" provision, which could immediately save the Hornets several million when you are talking about contracts the size of Peja's or Okafor's. The problem, though, is that the Pacers are not in a position to take on those extra millions in salary. That's the sort of trade they might be able to do next summer, but not this summer.

I think Ty Lawson is a more realistic target.

I don't see the point of swapping picks in this deal unless NO thinks the Pacers are going to take the guy they want. I'd rather leave out the picks and do a separate deal with MN or OKC to move down for multiple picks.
