O.J Mayo
I've heard his name tossed around in a few trade rumors during the season and a few now in the offseason. Just wondering what everyone thought about him here? Obviously he isn't a true point guard, and is a little selfish so he wouldn't really fit in well here in Indy. But just wanted to see what other people thought of him and the Grizzlies.

He is a PG. He's been playing SG because Conley was already there.

Even if he couldn't pull off a trade for Mayo, I wouldn't mind Conley.

Mayo doesn't play point guard because he doesn't have the athleticism and court vision to play the position. He would be a huge liability when he's playing the Derrick Rose's, John Wall's and Russell Westbrook's of the league. His play making ability is sub-par and he looks for his own shot before setting up others (not that that's a bad thing, but not something you'd want out of your point guard).

Every one of the those players you mentioned look for their own shots first. OJ was a PG his entire life until he got to Memphis. He was always asked to score first and still is asked to score first. Rose, Westbrook, and Wall are some of the fastest players in the league. Everyone is a liability tryin to guard them, but he could do better than a lot of points in the NBA.

^ Mayo went to USC.
I don't like the idea of him playing PG in the NBA, he just seems too careless with the ball in the times I've seen him play in person and on TV. Reminds me of Evan Turner, though Turner averaged more TOs per game than Mayo did.
One thing I do like about Mayo is that he hasn't missed a game in his first two years in the league.

He knew what I meant. OJ is better ball handler than Turner. Most of Turners assist are from him driving and kicking it out to Buford and Lighty. he is gonna struggle playin for the 76ers. You have to help on OJ when he drives, you don't on Turner. He isn't overpowering or blowin by anybody. OJ's shot is better and more and consistent too.

Mayo's shot is better and more consistent?
Turners three years at OSU:
47% Fg, 50% Fg, 52% Fg
Mayos 1 yr at USC and two years in the NBA:
44% Fg, 44% Fg, 46% Fg
You say Turner isn't blowing by people, yet you say that his assists are from driving and kicking? That means he IS blowing by people and they are having to come help or else the kick-out pass does no good for anyone.
You say Turner isn't overpowering people, but he averaged 4.4, 7.1, and 9.2 rebounds per game in college. Mayo averaged 4.5 in college and 3.8 in two years at Memphis.
Mayo is an effective scorer and that is about it. He isn't going to be a team leader and definitely not a PG in the NBA. If he was, Memphis wouldn't have picked up Tinsley and Marcus Williams to be backup PGs.

Re: O.J Mayo
Turner was doing everything you listed in college. he can overpower and outrun players in college but not NBA. Almost all of Turner's baskets come from around the rim. His efficiency will drop off this year more than you think. Only players on Philly that will compliment his game are Kapono and Hawes. Mayo can play point, he just hasn't been asked to yet.

So you are basing your opinions on assumptions? Turner isn't going to do very well in the NBA even though he played very well in college. Mayo can play NBA PG, but hasn't, even on the way sub-par team that he is on.
I guess we will agree to disagree on this subject!

I could see a Rush for Conley deal. Fans in Indiana would be ok with that I think, but we still need to ship out TJ Ford!

What award exactly did he win? It wasn't the Naismith award. That went to JJ Redick. Here are the winners, all the way back to 1979...you can go ahead and pick out the scrubs if you want:
Evan Turner, Blake Griffin, Tyler Hansbrough, Kevin Durant, JJ Redick, Andrew Bogut, Jameer Nelson, TJ Ford, Jason Williams (Duke), Shane Battier, Kenyon Martin, Elton Brand, Antawn Jamison, Tim Duncan, Marcus Camby, Joe Smith, Glenn Robinson, Calbert Cheaney, Christian Laettner, Larry Johnson, Lionel Simmons, Danny Ferry, Danny Manning, David Robinson, Johnny Dawkins, Patrick Ewing, Michael Jordan, Ralph Sampson (3 times), Mark Aguirre, and Larry Bird.

JJ swept all the awards, except for the NABC Player of the year and the Oscar Robertson award, which JJ and Adam split.

Same here but they need depth at 4 and maybe at point. Price and Hansbrough?
Can Price even be traded?
