I have always like Lowry, but I wouldnt spend too much on him. Maybe 2 yr $4 mill deal. Max.

If so, the Rockets will match. I think he deserves more.

Let's look at some of the stategies and current FA climate.

With quite a few teams with BIG money (cap space) to spend, the Top Tier is probably gone. Odds to get one of they are Restricted (teams will resign a Top Tier) is LOW.
What I need help with is understanding the position a current team can take with their restricted player; can they do a Sign and Trade without advising where the Trade is going or that no Trade has been consumated; however, lock him in and then move him??? Obviously, if they fail to move him, he is theirs.

In addition, any Top Tier player that is Unrstircted again has BIG money elsewhere and we are NOT attrractive.

So we are left with really targeting a 3rd and 4th tiered player (probably unrestricted), to get to come to Indiana. This allow him to sign for multiple years, play as a possible starter, show the team/league what he can do. Then play good backup minutes into the future. How soon this backup role happens depends; If we pull a trade this year to get a starting PG, then he is backup now. We we get one in 2011, then he is starter now or shares minutes with TJ, Price ans Stephenson.

Other thoughts,

He'd be ok, but not the long term solution we all want.
Don't get me wrong I wouldn't mind him but yes I think Houston will match that offer pretty quick.

i actually like lowry a lot - good defender. i'd be pretty content if we were able to get him, but... don't think we'll spend enough to sign him away from houston. damnit.

We're keeping Lowry, unless you want a 7 foot 6 monster on your butt, I'd back away.

yeah, I don't see us offering anything that Houston wouldn't match, unless we just went nuts and signed him to like a 5 year 30 million dollar deal. Which I pray to god we don't.

Just sign Farmar to a 3 year , 13 million deal, player option on the last year. He wants the minutes.
