WHY NOT ALLEN IVERSON!

Post#1 » by Mackenzie2Cold » Wed Jul 7, 2010 2:31 am

Why don't we go after Allen Iverson! Sure he's a little old and didnt have a good year last year but we need a pg and he's what we need!

On ESPN NBA Rumors Allen said, "I want to return to the NBA next season, and help any team that wants me, in any capacity that they feel that I can help. I'm disappointed, and I owe my fans more than what they have seen of me the last couple seasons. However, now that my family is healthy and rock solid, I can concentrate fully on doing what I do best! At the camp, I will help teach kids some of what it takes to be successful in life. On and off the basketball court."

Did you see what it said? ANY TEAM THAT WANTS HIM! I would rather have him than ford, watson, farmar, or lowry.

He did say last year that he only wanted to play for a team that would start him and we would. I know he has a good 2-3 years left in him and we all know he can play so why not?!? But we can only dream right?

Welcome to the board. You could've posted this in the thread that was right at the top of the list with the exact same subject matter.

Iverson could still be a great player! If he doesnt want a bunch of money then give me some legit reasons on why we shouldnt sign him instead of telling me that im crazy.

1. Because he is crazy
2. Because he is old
3. Because he is me first still
4. Because he quit on two teams last season
5. Because he isn't worth a veteran's minimum now

6. He would hurt the development of Lance Stephenson. Why would we want him learnin from a shoot first, pass only when I'm trapped guard.

AI plays best with a coach like Larry Brown. Putting him with Jim O'Brien is just asking for trouble.

Ummmmm here's why not:

Iverson has basically not been useful to a team since before he left Philly. He left, Andre Miller arrived, BOOM they were better.

In Denver he didn't work right with Carmelo. He left, Billups arrived, BOOM WCF.

Detroit w/ him was just sad.

Memphis signed him, had a terrible terrible start, let him go, suddenly they were a much better team.

Only place I could see him working is on a veteran team that needs bench scoring, where he'd be willing to come off the bench. Lakers, for example.

Hey guys. Grizzlies fan here. Came on here because I was watching yall's Summer League game against the Nets.

I saw this topic and I couldn't help but reply to it.

DO NOT SIGN ALLEN IVERSON!

You see what he did to us? Don't for a minute think he's changed. He said the same thing last year. Yeah, it's Allen Iverson and he's done this and he's done that in his career, but that's over. He may seem like a good pickup because he can score the ball, but it's all about him when he's on the court. He doesn't care about the win. I remember last year, he came in the game and started firing shots left and right as if his teammates were invisible. He did nothing but hinder the development of our young players. And you may say, "Well, we'll just bring him off the bench and make him our sixth man." Yeah, we tried that and all he did was ***** and complain.

So what I'm saying is do not get AI.

Y'all got a huge steal in the draft in Lance Stephenson who I think can run the point for y'all and be a franchise player like Tyreke Evans. Why would you want Allen Iverson to slow down the development of a future star?

Just wanted to give y'all my two cents from a perspective that's been there before.

Why not?

Because he's proven he's a liar and simply cannot be trusted.

Why do I say that confidently? Because Memphis signed him last year only after having the owner, GM, and coach all personally meet for dinner with AI, and explain that he would come off the bench for them, and get around 25 minutes a night as an offensive spark at PG. He gladly agreed to a deal with them for that role. Then, about 2 games in, he flipped out, and was pulled from a game. He shortly thereafter complained to the media that he was promised a starting gig and to have the offense run through him. All this was completely untrue, which the local media called him out on.

He then proceeded to do the EXACT same thing in Philadelphia.

Why the hell wouldn't he do the same here. When he takes shots from Granger, and playing time from Stephenson, Rush, George, and eventually a healthy AJ Price, will you complain? Or just let him run a self-centered offense?
