Could our 1-2 Punch include CP3?

Sources say Paul wants out of NO:

http://www.cbssports.com/nba/story/13659617/new-hornets-brass-already-facing-crisis-with-paul?tag=coverlist;coverlist_photo

Rumblings out of the Bayou
have Chris Paul wanting to
go to a different team.

While the article states that
Paul mentioned teams he'd like
to play for in the Lakers, Magic,
and Knicks, I believe the absence
of him having veto power over trades
would make it possible for us to
come up with an offer for him.

If NO management's hands are
tied to accept the fact that it
really does have to deal Paul,
they, at least, won't be obliged
to have to send him where he
wants to go. They could listen
to offers and go for the best one
they could get.

Given that we've made moves that
has primed us for this kind of situation
(supposedly for next summer), do you
think getting Paul is possible?

If you were Larry, and assuming we'd
like Paul and Granger playing together,
what assets would you part with to make
sure CP3 becomes a Hoosier?

It would be great, but the answer to your question is "no."

I don't think we have the pieces to go after Chris Paul. I mean, sure we have the expiring contracts and young guns like Rush and let's say the rookies, but it still wouldn't be enough. They would likely ask for a "Granger" in return, just like Larry Bird not wanting to trade Granger unless for a same tier kind of guy.

I'd say it is unlikely. I'd look into it but doubt any deal could be worked out. I'd also have to talk to him and his agent to determine his feelings about playing for us if a deal could be worked. I'd give them TJ, Muphy, Rush, Hans, 2 #1 picks for Paul and Okafor. In fact I'd make those picks unprotected for 2011 and top 5 protected for 2013.

Trade ID #5630360

Of the teams listed as possible trade partners only Orlando has the stuff to make it happen, maybe the Lakers but I'd think our package would be as good if not better.

We'd still have Solo Jones, Foster and Dunleavy expiring and Tinsley's buyout coming off the books next season, that's about $24 million we could get a pretty decent player or George could become the SG we need.

Again not likely to happen but nice to dream about.

Trade them anything and everything outside of Granger, George, Stephenson, Hibbert, Rolle, and Hans.

I say we have something good to offer them.

To New Orleans:
- expirings, absorbing Okafor and Posey
- George and/or Hibbert: two positions of need for them
- future picks
- they can pick one or two out of Rolle, Stephenson, Rush, Hansbrough

To Paul:
- Danny G, or the only guy in this league that sometimes draws comparisons with Pippen
- a team that has never been in full rebuilding mode and that is ready to swing the fences with the addition of one superstar
- a big three, with 2 on the court and 1 making the decisions that have to be made
- a beautiful city (hope to check it out one day myself)

I would be more than welcome to a Hansbrough trade to NO for Chris Paul.

Murphy
Rush
Hansbrough
Dunleavy
2011 1st
2013 1st

for

Paul
Okafor

Paul/Ford/Price
George/Stephenson
Granger/Jones
Emeka Okafor/McRobert/Rolle
Roy Hibbert/Foster/Jones

We would need another SF, but that team would be good.

I like George, Hibbert, and 2011 1st more than Paul. He could leave in 2 years and we would be left with a 29 or 30 year old Granger to rebuild around. We could put those 3 assets around Granger and contend in 2 or 3 years along with addin a few good free agents.

If Paul wants a trade to New York, Orlando, or LAL, those teams don't really have a Granger type player to give up, so to say the only way Indiana could get CP3 is to give up Granger is off base.

Think about what New York could really give NOH...

Orlando...probably has more talent to give back, but not a Granger type player...and NOH already shot down Jameer and VC for CP3

LAL...

Orlando has almost nuthin to offer. VC is an expirin only if you pay him 4 million extra, which every team would do and Nelson is not anywhere near and never will be close to Paul.

Whut! The Magic still have Fran Vazquez! The Hornets should love to get him!

Looking at it I could see only a Lakers trade amont the teams that Paul listed. Paul, Okafor, Posey for Odom, Bynum and Sasha V. plus as many #1s as they can, and $3 million.

I just saw on the ticker on ESPN that his teams now are: New York, Orlando, Mavericks, and Blazers. No Lakers on that list.

So what could Dallas give?

What could Portland give? NOH already shot down the CP3 trade around the draft from Portland, because the owner "was not ready to part with him."

I wouldn't think Granger would be the elite player he wants to team with ala the Heat deal. however, if he does move to what he thinks will be a contender, that may free up another point guard for us. the current starting point guard of his destination could come here and we could send NO expiring contracts to make the trade legal.

Hmmm…

This means that if he went
to the Knicks, we could make
a deal for Raymond Felton.

If he went to ORL, that could
possibly open up Nelson.

If he ends up in DAL, the 3-way
can net us Roddy Beaubois.

Why not?

The instrument has yet to be invented that could measure the slimness of the Pacers' chances of getting Chris Paul.

Sure the Knicks and the Lakers got some good pieces to offer for Paul but the Pacers still don't have that much assets to acquire him. Aside from expirings and draft picks, what else can we offer them? I can't imagine the Hornets calling Larry inquiring about Troy, Brandon Rush, and a filler for Paul.
If it's quantity that NOH wants in exchange for Chris Paul, we're no match to what NY can offer.

IND has NO chance to WIN even they have CP3. Better looking for other option as CP3 would cost you more than two overrated rookie in Rush and Hansbrough.

I don't see how the Pacers aren't a team in the mix for Paul if he turns out to be receptive to going there. They can take back Emeka, match Paul & Emeka with expiring deals (and players that, while overpaid, aren't completely useless like many expirings that get dealt) and have a good amount young talent they can send back, likely two of Rush/Price/Hansborough/Stephenson/Rolle. They could also offer two first rounders which I don't believe NY can do.
