IMO, the league's worst front office in recent years is the Knicks', hands down. The article I linked to only talks about Walsh, who is certainly not the league's worst GM. But the overall situation in New York...yikes. That's a franchise that has no excuse to ever put a bad team on the court. They have tradition, a passionate fan base, loads of money...and they play in New York for godssake. They should roll out a great team built around two or three elite free-agent pickups year after year after year. Instead, they've been rolling out a steaming pile of dung that at one point cost more than $100 million in salaries. And they aren't out of the woods yet. If they weren't so effed up, they'd have attracted much more than just Amare Stoudemire this summer.

I've always thought that if you're going to assign blame for the Pacers' recent woes, most of it should go to former players rather than the front office. I'd argue that the jury is still out on Bird. He was dealt a crappy hand. Next summer when the bad contracts are up and the shackles come off, that's when we'll find out if he's a good GM or not.

I haven't read the link yet, but I certainly wouldn't say Bird is the worst. I don't agree with all our moves, particularly our draft moves, but overall he has more basehits than most. I think that we'll have a much clearer picture in about 15 months when the 2011 season begins. Actually, you'll probably need to add a few months to that for the lockout, but you know what I mean.

I would agree that the combination of Bird and Walsh was terrible and was agrueably the worst in the league. Not sure I can identify one good trade made during their combined tenure. Bird by himself still needs more time to draw a conclusion.

if the Knicks get Paul without destroying whatever they have left around Amare, then they would definitely not be the worst front office. And hey, in recent years, our front office has the same number of playoff appearances as the knick's front office does.

This idiot fails to realize that in 04' we were the first team in the history of the NBA to be given a death sentence, and our roster was devalued to the point of giving up DPOY's for what led to a trade exception that we had no use for.

Regardless, next year will be Bird's first chance to rebuild how he sees fit. I really believe he has built a great foundation.

Bird just went 3 for 3 at the draft with a grand slam, a two-run homer, & a triple. It will be more fair to judge Larry in the next two seasons, after he actually has a chance to do his job.

what is your basis for saying he went 3 for 3 in the draft?? Don't answer that. Guys like Marco Belinelli, yeah who?, have scored 37 points in a summer league game. Potentially he could've gone 3 for 3 if George and Lance blossom while Magnum just makes the team but regardless, the guys we picked will have a few years before we can say if they were home runs.... and You're smoking some goooood shiiit if you're calling Magnum Rolle a triple. Can't say I don't like the optimism though.

OT: Bird isn't the WORST gm, but hes surely nothing more than average. He'll be the worst GM if this plan fails horribly next summer, I'll say that. He hasnt done much thus far to say he's a great GM but at the same time you cant say he's the worst. That's in the hands of PG, Lance, and the time leading up and through Summer 2011.

Larry plays the hick from French Lick to his advantage. I remember years ago when I was practicing law full time there would be times when dealing with a New York lawyer we'd just slow our speech and let the hoosier twang come out and they'd underestimate us every time. Larry may say things like "them guys" but he is much smarter than he sounds.

the problem back when Donnie was here was the two of them deferred too much to each other and some things might have dropped in between. working together made the combination too cautious.

Not only has Kahn lowered the value of all his players, he also gives us a negative quote/assessment every week. The man drafted two pgs in the top six, one of which is still in Europe, ahead of Curry and Jennings, and signed Ra Sessions, all in the same offseason. He also traded Al Jefferson for two late first round picks. I believe Jefferson's value will skyrocket in Utah next to Mehmet, Derron, AK, Milsap.

Kahn is not very professional in his approach, which is surprising since he was tutored by Walsh.

To have a leader with loose lips cannot be good at all.

Bird and Walsh was a bad combo period, you cant have 2 guys running the same team, it wont work.

But Bird is a decent GM, is he as good of GM as he was a coach? No! But he has done good. He brought in Danny Granger, Roy Hibbert and this draft class will be very good in a couple years

Favors was among those guys like Wall and Turner who hadnt played 5 on 5 basketball since the end of his college season. Magnum was working out in 5 on 5 settings and such just trying to get drafted.

If James chooses NYC, then Donnie is a genius. We'll have to wait until next year to see who Walsh adds to the roster ( Parker, CP3, Melo).

Regardless, Donnie Walsh is a friggin' genius, he flipped a contender into another contender within one season.

the more amateur trade proposals I read, the happier I am that Larry is our GM and turning down all the rumored deals. patience.
