Rush Break Out Or Bust?

Most players in the league show their ceiling in their third season (sometimes longer for those right out of HS)
Being that Rush is 25 years old and going into his third season, do you think he will break out or be a bust?
There was a slight improvement from his first year to his second.
FG%
Season 1 - .423
Season 2 - .423 (but more shots attempted)
3PT%
Season 1 - .373
Season 2 - .411 (with more shots attempted)
APG
Season 1 - 0.9
Season 2 - 1.4
PPG
Season 1 - 8.1
Season 2 - 9.4
It would be hard to label him a bust even if he just mirrors last season being that he is reliable and plays pretty good defense. But, we need him to produce.
12 PPG; .435 FG% .420 3PT%
1.8 APG
4.5 RPG
1.0 SPG; 1.0 BPG
All with good defense.... I think I'd be happy with that, what do you think? I don't think he is really capable of doing much more. Hopefully he can be a little more efficient.

Before we drafted George, I saw Rush averagin 14 and 6. Now that George is here, I see him gettin only 10 or 11 points a game.

Whatever we can get out of Rush we should take it. He isn't a bust, but he will never be an all-star either. Just needs to know his role and knock down some jumpers.

Rush can be an all-star, he just needs to get it together. If he ever does, I feel it won't be with the Pacers.

Hmm, it seems like he is talented enough. But he just really struggles with confidence issues. I think in a different system he could be a 16 4 4 guy. Maybe if we hold on to him through the JOB era he could get there. But with George coming in, if he develops quickly that may never happen for Rush.

Depends on your definition of breakout. I don't think he has the mental makeup to be an allstar. An improvement in his offensive game and you have a pretty solid two way player. Its not a wild stretch to think that could happen this year.

in basketball? In the NBA? Or like, an all-star in a Russian league or something? I'm not sure what you're referring to.
Rush has almost a zero percent chance of ever becoming an all-star in the NBA. Even if he pans out to one hundred percent, he'll always just be a defensive specialist who hits his open shots. He'll never create his own shot, carry a team, or create shots for others.
His ceiling is a poor man's eddie jones.

Agree, I don't think he has the mental makeup and drive to be an allstar. Eddie Jones is a reasonable comparison. If he gets anywhere close to that level and we still had him I'd be extatic.

Break out or bust? I think he'll probably be somewhere in between.
I think Rush is what he is...a guy with plenty of talent who just doesn't have quite what it takes to put that talent to full use. He'll probably continue to be a pretty good defender and a maddeningly inconsistent scorer. That's what he was all through college at Kansas, that's what he's been his first two seasons in Indiana, that's probably what he'll always be IMO.
Still, he's good enough that he might fit into the Pacers' long-term plans. I think he starts and gets most of the two-guard minutes this year. My hope, though, is that in time someone else (Paul George?) will emerge as the starter, and Rush will either become the first wing player off the bench or will be traded for someone the Pacers need more.

Rush can be an all star? Blah. I remember why I don't hang around the Indiana board very often.

If Rush would focus on defense, and just knock down the open 3, and occasionally take the ball to the hoop, he'd be a great asset on any team. Not quite Bruce Bowen, at least not yet, but in that same vein would earn him a long career. Essentially, he could be what he signed Dahntay Jones to do for us this past year, and could possibly be better at it.

I want to say that it was silly to give Dahntay's minutes to Luther Head.

If Rush has already achieved his ceiling, there's a big chance he'll never be an all-star. We need to see his game evolve some more, especially on the offensive end. He gets playing time, and plenty of it. He just needs to be consistent and assertive. Hopefully, with the arrival of George, Rush would now strive to keep his starting position.

I thought bringin in Dahntay Jones and Luther Head would do that to him. Don't think draftin 2 SG is gonna make a difference.

Can I just choose Break Even?

Brandon Rush will have nearly the same type of season this year as he has had in his first 2 seasons. Sometimes, what you see is what you get. The guy is 25 years old, if he was going to shake his confidence issues, it would've happened by now.

I'm not even sure if it's entirely confidence issues anymore. I hate saying this, but I think he's the kind of guy who isn't capable of understanding how to maximize in the system that he's in.
