How to use you expiring contracts?

Dear fellow IND fans,

I would like to know if given chance. Are you willing to trade all of your young player and expiring contracts and trade for CP3/Iggy/Brand/Okafor?

I may be simple, but I don't fully understand your question.

Is it each one individually, or are all attached?

I'd give up the farm for CP3 to be next to Granger, but the rest don't interest me much at all.

I guess.... taking all of them...... Uh.... I don't know.... that might be a championship level team. But expensive as all get out. Seriously, paul/granger/iggy/brand/okafor would make next year like 72 million combined. add in the rest of the team and you're pretty strapped up.

Ahh screw it if there was some way to trade our expirings and get all those 4 players, yes, yes, i'd do it, i'm not paying the damn bills.

How do we use our expiring contracts?

We ain't the fish, we're the fishermen. Using our expiring contracts as bait, Bird figures somewhere down the road, and it likely won't be at the start of the season, that some team will give in to the Pacers and give them a PG amongst what all else they need.

Why don't you spell out the trades? I don't want Brand, but I'm assuming you have us trading our guys for Brand and Iggy, then some kind of deal where we acquire Paul and Okafor. I'm good with the Paul and Okafor deal assuming it's like this, CP and Okafor for Murphy, Ford, Rush, Hans, and 2 #1 picks. What does that leave for the Philly trade? Dunleavy and Foster plus George for Brand and Iggy.

We get to keep Granger and Hibbert with the new players we'd be way over the tax next year and we'd be pretty good, but I don't think the Hornets will take that, they are gonna want more like Murphy, TJ, Rush, Hibbert, and George plus the 2 #1 picks, and then the question is does CP want to play in Indiana? Team is pretty well gutted and no #1 pick in 2011 would make it hard to improve.

I like Iggy but just don't want to risk Brand who I think is nearly washed up, he might have 1 more year left at a 25 min per night 15/8 level for 60 games, but he's an expensive part time player. Then you have 3 full years of that or less from him, just to get Iggy. I'd rather just stick with what I have.

I don't think this strategy works if you are going to take back underproductive or dead weight contracts totaling 20-30 mil annually.

The road map the Pacers could follow is Boston. Accumulate young talent, have cap space or expiring contracts. Find teams with elite talent who need to start over and make your trades with them. When Boston did this they didn't take back bad contracts. Their money went to the big three without the baggage (Brand and Okafor) contemplated in the OP. To accomplish this you need alot of young talent. Throw enough young talent at either Philly or New Orleans and they won't feel compelled to dilute the deal with a bad contract. I'm not sure Indiana has accumulated enough young talent to pull this off.
