Earl Watson

With the signing of Darren Collison, what do we do with Earl Watson? I understand he is an unrestricted free agent, but do we (and can we?) use the 3.5 TPE we aquired in the recent trade to give him more of a deal? 3 million compared to say, 1.4 million? I also know we need to reserve money for Rolle.

I wasn't sure if everyone was ok with AJ coming back. I like him as a player, but he is only guaranteed 175k this year. His spot could go to Watson.

Backcourt: Collison, Watson, Stephenson

Thoughts?

We have no roster spots left. Besides, why would you cut someone making probably half of what Watson would make?

Simple: Resign Earl Watson if no other trade brings you a back up PG. Good guy, very servicable, knows the system, can mentor Darren, steady veteran.

Apparently AJ will be ready by training camp, or shortly into it.

He showed enough last year and has a cheap enough contract (and we're going to suck enough anyway) that he's worth another year or two to see what he can be as a project, even coming off the injury.

After getting Darren Collison, I see no need for Earl Watson. Go into the season with what we have. Let AJ and Lance soak up the backup minutes, and Dunleavy will probably play some point forward as well at times with Granger and Rush or George. We'll be ok. If someone goes down injured, then we can make an adjustment, maybe cut someone and go out and sign a Kevin Ollie for a month or so.

I don't want Earl Watson here with Jim O'Brien coaching this team , any time Darren Collison did something wrong O'Brien would go to his vet Watson. I don't want JOB having any excuse for not playing youth Collison, Stephenson or even Price at the point.

Watson said he wanted to leave and sign with a more playoff likely team good luck Earl . If Collison is as ready as most think I want him playing 30+ minutes a night , while we continue to develop Stephenson and Price with an eye to the future. Wasting minutes on an over 30 year old point with no real future here makes no sense.

Lol! Your right, Watson would just give JOB another excuse to screw things up with the development of our future!

True, but we have our full MLE left, and with the reduction in salary in the Collison trade (that created the TPE), we dropped under the luxury tax by the same amount. Essentially, we could use part of our MLE now.
