Any thoughts on Josh Smith?

Q. Would we be interested?
A. He's not the type of player Bird tends to go for.

Q. Do we have anything ATL would want?
A. Theres not much in my mind we have up "for Sale" out side of Ford, Solo, Dahntay, Dunleavy, maybe Foster, Rush. I dont know what they are looking for, but I doubt its any of that.

Q. Would he fit the bill?
A. Athletic, Shot blocker, Rebounder.....Yes. Without a doubt I think he fits. Perfect next to Hibbert.

Closing statement:
Though his on court performance fits the bill. His prior attitude might be be a determent to Bird. Also I dont think we can put together a package ATL would want.

I can't speak for Larry Bird, but if Josh is available, I hope we have inquired.

I believe he would fit in real nicely at the four. We would have one of the most athletic teams in the league and would be set for years to come with that core of players.

If we were to somehow acquire Josh Smith, it would be epic. I just don't think any of our "for sale" items would be anything ATL would want. The only way they might do a deal would be for cap relief to be able to resign Al Horford, but giving away Smith would be too much to keep Horford.

In the end, we can dream, but I don't think such a deal is feasible.

Actually Greenway I think Smith's days are numbered in ATL. Horfords request to play more at the 4 apparently has not fallen on deaf ears because the coach has gone on record and stated that Al will see plenty of time at PF.

I think ATL's desire to retain Al is so great that Smoove could be a goner if the Hawks struggle out of the gate.

I think the Hawks would do good to add Foster if they plan on playing Al at the 4. Unfortunately they don't need a Ford.

All things considered I'd give:
Foster/ 4 mill tpe/ Rush/ 2011 pick swap option for Josh.

Realistically a swap might only drop us 7 positions tops.

Let everyone else expire and save the other 25 mill for our own.

^Rolle

I would actually rather have Horford. If he wants to play the 4, our team would be perfect.

I would prefer hortford also but so would ATL therefore making it harder to obtain him. Like boneman said it looks like smoove may be the odd man out assuming there is an odd man out

Smith can play the 3 though, he just still needs to develop his outside shot... which would allow JJ to slide to the 2 and of course Bibby at point. And then they have Pachulia (sp?) at the 5... Their rotation would involve those 5 along with Marvin Williams and Jamaal Crawford mostly.

Not saying you're wrong Boneman but they have a versatile bunch, so Horford moving to the 4 spot isn't that big of an issue IMO.

With the money they gave to JJ, we could make an offer to Horford that the Hawks may not be willing to match. We, barring trades, would have the cap room to splurge a bit.

I think he's perfect for you guys but not sure what you have that the Hawks want?

Future 1st, Dahntay Jones, Jeff Foster for Josh Smith? Probably not

Of course you would, and so would I. Problem is, Atlanta would hang up the phone on Bird as soon as he got that proposal out of his mouth, and not answer the next time he called.

4 quarters don't necessarily equal a dollar

I have no reason to believe Smith is in any way available at this point. didn't Atlanta just pay big money to keep him? if they were interested in trading him wouldn't they have looked for a sign and trade partner? Josh would be a great fit here but I think you're dreaming.

now next summer everything changes. when Horford comes off his rookie contract, Atlanta will have decisions to make assuming they want to avoid luxury tax. we'll be sitting their with cap room and that'll get our foot in the door.

TPE cannot combine players to trade. It can only combine with draft picks, cash, or players whose contract is minimum.

Also, I still don't think we do need a power forward right now. All we need to do is make the roster one spot free and sign Rolle. In that way, the Pacers will have 6 big guys: Hibbert, Foster, Hansbrough, McRoberts, Solo, and Rolle.

Many of you doubt that since Foster and Hansbrough are still uncertainty in health, and think that McBob and Solo cannot start. But here is what I think:

Did JOB get enough minutes for them to play and let them show whether they can improve or not? No.

Both McBob, Solo and Rolle have good athleticism that may be nice to pair with Hibbert. Give them a chance to show, play them and see how high they can reach. If one of them can start, Bingo! We rock! If not, we could play Granger and Posey at 4 and give more minutes to George and Stephenson.

Remember we have a lot salary space next summer. There will be some good big man free agents that can go after, such as Zach Randolph, Al Horford, Joakim Noah, Tyson Chandler, David West and Carl Landry. What's more important is you don't need to worry if this new PF can fit the coach's style because by then we may have a new coach.

And don't forget the 2nd round pick in 2005, Erazem Lorbek. He is one of the best low post player in Europe, and he may join NBA next year.

There still plenty of choice at PF waiting for the Pacers. That's not something we need to rush for.

Probably a better PF crop next year and then we have the money to spend. As a stop gap, we may have enough bodies to man the 4 position if we sign Rolle; however, they are all so young and inexperienced, especially if Foster cannot give many minutes.

PF guys to consider by the start of training camp:
Tyrus Thomas
M. Camby
Ibaka
Hickson
Blatche
R. Evans
B. Wtight
Amir Johnson
T. Yong
J. Maxiell
Wilcox
Craig Smith

Patience.

I think Josh Smith is a perfect fit next to Hibbert but according to most ATL fans is out of our price range.

I like a trade of Dahntay Jones to Houston for Jordan Hill. Haven't seen Hill play much in the NBA but from what I was when he was at Arizona he could turn out to be the diamond in the rough that J.O. was when he came here. Not to mention Houston just drafted Patrick Patterson so Hill should be expendable.

After they hung up I'd offer Al Horford a silly contract. ATL isn't in a position to negotiate any big-money contracts. They'll need to shed salary in order to keep Al, especially the salary of another PF. It's whatever.

Smoove is one of a very few players I'd spend our cap and picks on.

Atlanta IS going to move a big.

I want him!!!

They doubtlessly now are deciding whether they'd rather keep the undersized but big contributing Smith - or pay stupid cash for Horford. When they get on with it I want the Pacers to be there to nab the other.
T'would give us a line up that would contend for a long time.

1st off, McBob sucks, cut him and send his winny ass back to Carmel

With that said, Josh Smith or Marcus Camby would be nice. Smith is young and very talented but Camby has experience and can rebound

I can't see a two team trade between the Pacers and Hawks that nets us Josh Smith. But as shown by the Collison trade expiring contracts are tradable assets. So is the ability to take on a long term contract and a some young assets.

If Atlanta were to move Smith I'd expect they would want a center and maybe a point guard back in return. A center that might be had for the right price Marcin Gortat a point guard Jose Calderon. Expiring contracts would be useful to assist bringing those guys back to Atlanta. I've seen a couple of threads that have assembled trades involving these four teams. You need all the stars to aleign but that's what happened in the Collison trade.
