Stephenson Charged With Pushing Girlfriend Down Flight Of Stairs

Lance Stephenson was charged with pushing his girlfriend down a flight of stairs, police said.

Stephenson roughed up Jasmine Williams, 21, in the stairwell of her Brooklyn apartment building at about 5 a.m., according to police.

Stephenson's blows sent Williams tumbling head-first down 10 steps, requiring her to be treated at a hospital for injuries to her head and neck, cops said.

Stephenson was charged with third-degree assault. He was awaiting arraignment on Saturday night.

There's a reason Stephenson fell to 40 despite being a lottery-caliber talent. Great potential. Terrible person.

Family problems doesn't excuse assault, in my eyes. Let alone assault on a woman.

Color me old fashion, but that's just ridiculous. You're an NBA player now. You have baby mama drama in NYC? Hop on a plane, fly to Indy immediately, and check into a hotel. Then, find an apartment the next day. Take time to handle it right. Assault is not right.


I don't think there's any belief that he's "innocent". He pushed her down a flight of stairs apparently. Unless she was brandishing a knife and swiping it at him, and his only means of escape to safety was pushing her away and she just happened to be standing in front of a flight of stairs, he really can't be innocent. It's tough to justify this.

If he is convicted and found guilty. Bird should release him. It took Pacers so long to clean up the image you do not need him here.

He may be talented, but get rid of him. We've seen this before. He has to go.

I'm willing to give this 24 hours for more details to surface. If it is what it is, he's toast in indy, best of luck with the Knicks.

Are you serious? This one really hurts. The guy had an impressive summer league and was saying and doing all the right things. This would be impossible to stomach if we didn't just get Darren Collison.

You know what, I'm ok with letting this run it's course, and seeing what actually happened. If it was all one tragic mistake and horrible choice that Lance made, but he can not only state that it was an error, but he can detail step by step what he's doing to ensure that it never will be an issue again, or that he'll never be in a situation where he'll act like this again, I'm ok with one more shot.

However, if ANYTHING happens again, you have to cut him loose at that moment. Sometimes a guy like this needs a shot to make it right, or needs support to get through the stupidity in his life. So long as it's the one time issue, and he's not on the Shawne Williams track.

This is certaingly troubling. Wonder how long it will take to sort this out. If he's guilty does that mean we are done with him or does he get one more chance? Self discipline has been a weakness on the floorv this incident points the same problem off it. Odds are you probably don't rehab someone troubled in this way and I'm not sure an NBA team has time to try.

There is a reason why he could only go to Cinci & a reason why he fell to round 2.

He wont ever be anything special in the league because he is a headcase..

I'll willing to wait for more details before I label him a failure already.

The first story isn't always the most accurate one.

Either way it's terrible PR for a team that has done its due diligence in cleaning up its image in recent seasons.

Lance needs to get out of NYC, and stay in Indy, hell, make Hibbert be his body guard and keep him out of trouble.

I hope there is more to this story then we are being told, he has great talent, but so did Artest, Tinsley and Jackson

Keep in mind this is a 3rd degree assault. Even 2nd degree's on any crime in most cases are deemed accidental.

Yeah you push someone down a flight of stairs, you can be arrested for it, esp. if it causes injury, but until you get the facts like was she told to leave but still kept arguing, etc.

A lot of this case we don't know about yet. Plus the steps in question where only 10 steps deep, which is only an 8-10 ft. drop, assuming no more then a ft. wide and deep per step.
