I am really liking Posey

I will say this, i've always been a fan of James Posey, not just now. But, i didn't think i'd like him this much. I always knew what a player he was ON the court, but not exactly off the court behind the camera's and to me, it looks like he will have a major impact with the team no matter if he plays much or not. And maybe, he can take Lance Stephenson under his wing?

James Posey has been on the receiving end of passes from Shaquille O'Neal during the NBA Finals. He made big 3-pointers for the Boston Celtics in the Finals, too.

Now Posey, the sudden elder statesman on the youthful Indiana Pacers, hopes to pass some of the knowledge he has picked up on the court and in the locker room during his 11-year career to some of his less-experienced teammates.

"It's about winning at the end of the day and putting ourselves in a good position," said Posey, who along with Darren Collison met local media Tuesday for the first time since being traded last week. "I'll continue to work hard and lead by example, show these guys that we won on the teams I was on before because we worked hard and valued each other."

When we traded for him, I thought we would just turn around and trade him, but Im with you now, I think he is a keeper. We really havent had veteran leadership around here for a long time. I like the idea of him taking Lance under his wings. Anyone remember when we drafted Al Harrington and Antonio Davis took him under his wings? Granted, Al didnt have the off the court issues that Lance has but I think it will do Lance some good like it did Al....

Back when Ron-Ron was making a name for himself, everyone on the general board thought Posey was right there with him defensively. Now I don't know if I'd go that far, but it is nice to have a veteran leader/presence.

He won't bring his A game anymore, but as the IndyStar alluded to, James is already assuming a leadership role within the team. We honestly haven't had that voice in a long time, the fact James won't be one of the top producers is irrelevant, he has paid his dues and offers a wealth of knowledge that will be heard because he'll say it.

Boston and Miami fans really had great things to say about him on the trade board. They'd love to have him back.

I appreciate that he is willing to play here and help with the rebuilding process, knowing that he is mentoring his replacements. He has been a professional about coming to this franchise, considering he has only played for contenders over the last five seasons.

I think this is very well said. I thought he would come here with a bad attitude for playing in Indiana, but now I definitely would like to keep him for how professional he has been with the whole process. Go James!

I would like to see him get some playing time this year. Having six wing players is going to be tough.

I've been saying that his veteran presence and the fact that he contributed to a championship team makes him not just a bad contract to swallow for Collison.

I have a feeling a wing or two might get traded

I've always thought that the key factor that started our playoff run in the 90's was signing Byron Scott. He told Reggie and the boys what it took to win rings. I'm hoping Posey can serve the same role for this group. When the rumors started I took him to just be a contract numbers matcher, but I agree that he sounds like he could be much more than that.

I've always liked Posey. He's a gamer and a winner. I feel like the guy he can help most is Brandon Rush.

agree about Posey, plus he's not afraid to mix it up

i'm probably more in the camp of he's old, sucks, and we should buy him out (since nobody will trade for him). but if we keep him around, hoping he can contribute with leadership, defense, and 3s.
