Question for mods

I don't post much but i do read these boards a lot.

The locking of the Randolph thread seems a bit excessive. I know threads get derailed pretty easily here but to lock a post that is relevant because of a few off topic/attack posts does not seem like the best solution.

Edit out there posts and give them each a warning. If they don't get the point give them a 48 hour ban. Seems like it would deter this type of stuff.

I dunno, just my 2 cents.

Either way thanks for the time u do spend mods, cuz you do keep these boards nice and on topic.

It was on topic, REVOLVER said he wouldn't trade Randolph to the Pacers for anybody . I called him out on it. Both the Knicks and the Pacers were involved in the trade. I don't see where it was derailed.

When he says that you laugh and ignore him. No more constructive conversation can come from that.

I get why the mod locked it but it's a relevant post that shouldn't be locked because there was some good points made EARLY in the thread.

I agree, i don't understand why the thread was shut down. Seems very childish to lock down a thread due to a discussion about Randolph to Indiana, in which it was totally on topic. One poster made a ridiculous comment about not trading Randolph for anybody on the Pacers and it became a vocal point of the topic, but that was still on topic. Like PacersDG said, sometimes you just gotta ignore that, as i did, but i felt like Indy2thaWindy handled it very well. Why not call him out for it as long no personal attacks are made. I feel like the forum has become very PG13.

It's basketball talk between two different fan bases, of course some discussions will seem a little more in your face then others. As long as you don't break some rules (personal attacks, name calling, ect) i think topics should be kept alive.

Let's not forget what a message forum is all about- to share your opinions. The Randolph topic was on track the whole time.

Poor decision by the RealGM mods.

Speaking about mods, i also have a question of my own. I have been posting on here like it's been my job since 2007 with several "breaks" inbetween for personal reasons, so usually i'm up to date with all the happenings on this forum. However, looking at the mods list above-

1. I thought Scoot retired?
2. Wasn't Count55 a mod?
3. Who the hell is kyphi? Never seen him post here once, is he someone who changed their user name from something?

And while i'm asking questions, anybody know where DGrangerXX33 is?

I did call him a name... I called him a homer.

I don't consider "homer" to be a personal attack. It's someone who is biased beyond believe towards his own team, ala someone saying they wouldn't trade Anthony Randolph for Danny Granger. You were just stating the obvious.

I understand all of your concerns and I appreciate bringing this to my attention. A note before going on:

All questions or concerns or complaints towards the moderating team should be taken up via private message, as stated here: viewtopic.php?f=191&t=812773

Technically this thread is against the rules, but I feel that these are legitimate questions, so I will answer before locking.

Starting from easiest to answer:

1. I thought Scoot retired?

He was. Called back to active duty with the absence of myself and PR07.

2. Wasn't Count55 a mod?

Retired a long time ago.

3. Who the hell is kyphi? Never seen him post here once, is he someone who changed their user name from something?

She is a formerly retired mod who came in with Scoot to fill the void left by PR07 and myself during the absence mentioned above.

And while i'm asking questions, anybody know where DGrangerXX33 is?

He's over at PacersDigest these days.

Now about the thread locking. What happened here was that there were just 5 posts in a row of thinly veiled personal attacks. There's a difference between calling someone out on being a homer and telling them they should go back to their own board, which is disrespecting another person's opinion, which has no place on RealGM. That's where somebody's being disrespectful. There is no condoning this.

I do admit that this is punishing many for the crimes of a few. I don't like to edit posts unless there is something extremely profane or offensive. In this case, it was The temporary suspension is new and I failed to consider it. I have decided to unlock the thread, but seriously, don't feed trolls, and don't start flame wars. If someone is being a dumb homer, just ignore them.

Once again, if you have any more questions or concerns, I'll be happy to answer them if you PM me.
