Hopefully he will go to D-League and play and maybe bulk up til we can pull off a trade mid season

Honestly, I just don't think it's a huge deal.

Most likely, he'll sign in the D-League for a year, and hope to get signed mid-year. Maybe we're the team to do it.

However, he's a couple years away from being a contributor in any meaningful way. At least Solo can chew some minutes if Foster is hurt.

I think this ultimately means that Josh McRoberts WILL NOT play center in any meaningful minutes this year.

if I had any doubt that this was the right move barring a trade, it all went away when one of you posted that he was only guaranteed 50k. he looked good in summer league against wanna bees, but showed nothing in the preseason and I presume from his playing time that he didn't show much in practice either.

From someone I trust as a very good source, I'm told his practice and his work ethic were great. The cut came down to Solo being able to play behind Hibbert if Foster isn't able to go and the fact that JOB said Rolle wouldn't have been even close to the rotation at this point.

Its not a popular move, but it is probably the smartest move right now.

I know Rolle wasn't exactly a stud in the preseason, but I don't see Solomon Jones really blowing his stats out of the water, especially since we have to have 3 inactive anyway.

Rolle is obviously a project whereas Solo, I think we pretty much know what we have with him. Neither is exactly going to be playing major minutes this year (barring re-injuries to Foster and/or Hansbrough), so I don't see why not "Rolle" the dice (see what I did there?) Especially considering Rolle is on such a cheap contract by NBA standards. Even if Solo is guaranteed, releasing him and taking on Rolle's, what, 500K contract wouldn't exactly harm us in the salary cap. Don't understand this at all.

I think this is a mistake...it should have been solo, who IMO will contribute little and has very little long-term upside.

yes, when all was said and done, it turned out that the thin spot was not at power forward but at center and Rolle is not a possibility there at least in the immediate future.

I too would have preferred Solo released but perhaps if we can swing a deal by mid season, Rolle will still be around to sign.

With the experience and contract, I guess it made enough sense for the Pacers. Apparently, they aren't worried about losing Rolle all that much.

But Rolle's 500k contract or whatever it is compared to Solo's $2 million? Seems like it's worth the gamble, at least short-term.

You mean, Magnum's $50,000 guarantee or Solo's $1.5 million guarantee?

The Pacers saved $450,000 by waiving Rolle. They would've lost $1.5 million by waiving Solo. It's that simple. It's a $1.95 million swing.

No, Scoot. The $1.5mm is gone money.

It was a $460 decision - the difference between the $50 guarantee and the $510 total contract.

This wasn't a financial decision. They went with Solo because Foster doesn't look healthy, and Magnum is at least a year or two away from contributing, and they think they need somebody - anybody - that might possibly be able to help up front this year.

Bingo. They went with the player they felt would give them more quality minutes off the bench. While Rolle may have a brighter future in the NBA (that is still to be seen since he has a big hill to climb) it was obvious that Rolle wasn't going to do much for this team right now. We were just not a very good fit for him.

interesting observation. we didn't see him in college but he did transfer away from LSU. he was stuck behind some NBA quality players but doesn't that suggest he wasn't playing at the level that would get him off our bench?

For me this is a head scratcher. For a month now the Pacers have been trying to make a 2 of 1 deal that would move Solomon and Danthay Jones thus creating the open roster spot for Rolle. Yet, when push comes to shove we need Solomon so badly due to our lack of depth. I suppose you could assume the player they expected to have coming back was a big.

In any event I never heard anything negative about Rolle from training camp and he clearly played well in the Summer League. I have to wonder if Foster went down would Solomon Jones be that much better of an alternative than using a small lineup. I've never seen enough performance from Solomon to think he would.

$1.5 mil guaranteed. Thats how Solomon made the team and Rolle got placed on waivers.

Solo can back up the C. Rolle cant. Tons of people in here are over-rating Rolle's talent. If he has talent im sure someone else will pick him up. The best case scenario for him was being the third PF and in a system where we want to play uptempo and use lineups with Collison/PG/DG/Rush/Dunleavy on the court at the same time, a third PF wouldnt have gotten many minutes anyway. Nevermind that OBrien is the coach.

We didnt lose anything by cutting him besides a few twitter updates. Move along people

I still think Rolle will be a decent player.
