GAME PREVIEW

Image

Milwaukee Bucks coach Scott Skiles has been relatively pleased with his team’s defensive effort. He can’t feel the same way about its offensive execution.

The visiting Bucks look to avoid matching their worst start in a decade Friday night as they face an Indiana Pacers team trying to rebound from its worst performance of the season.

While Milwaukee (1-4) is limiting opponents to 94.8 points per game on 44.2 percent shooting, the club is among the most inaccurate in the league from the field, hitting 40.5 percent.

TEAM REPORTS

Image

BUCKS

It's amply apparent the Bucks are having their share of problems at both ends of the court.

Offensively, the Bucks have been out of sync in virtually every game. Defensively, they've been wildly erratic.

But Bucks coach Scott Skiles believes those issues can eventually be addressed. More pressing, Skiles contends, is his minions' attitude.

Skiles claims the Bucks aren't playing with the same passion they exhibited last season when they surprised many observers by making the Eastern Conference playoffs.

Skiles, whose team is 1-4 after losing to the Celtics 105-102 in overtime Wednesday night in Boston, said the Bucks were a "top 10 team" in terms of effort last season, but now they are "near the bottom five."

Said Skiles succinctly: "Our approach isn't what it needs to be."

PACERS

Center Roy Hibbert is doing his best to grab the vacant leadership role and run with it for the Pacers.

Hibbert voiced his frustrations after the Pacers were embarrassed 101-75 by the 76ers on Wednesday.

"Within two days we have become a completely different basketball team," he said. "It was really pathetic. People have to be held accountable. We have to run the system. When we run it, we're good. When we don't we lose like this."

The Pacers have lacked any kind of leadership since Reggie Miller retired in 2005. Having a player vent his frustrations is not normal for the Pacers.

Hibbert, a third-year center, wants to be the new leader since Danny Granger has never taken hold of the role.

Hibbert was frustrated because the Pacers were thoroughly outplayed in every area of the game by Philadelphia. They only shot 32 percent from the field and struggled stopping Philadelphia in transition.

"We were horrible," Hibbert said. "We weren't running our sets. We weren't getting out and running. We weren't cutting and moving. This wasn't Pacers basketball. I thought we just took three steps back in my opinion."

THE COACHES

Image Vs.Image

Scott Skiles became the 11th head coach in the history of the Milwaukee Bucks on April 21, 2008. The veteran of nine head coaching seasons guided the Bucks to the fifth-largest win increase in 2008-09 with the Bucks tallying eight more victories compared to 2007-08, finishing 34-52. He also posted the 300th win of his career on January 12, 2009 at Washington.

Jim O’Brien has 30 years of coaching experience at the collegiate and professional level. Most recently, he served as head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers during the 2004-2005 season. The Philadelphia native guided the 76ers to the playoffs with a 43-39 record, a 10 win improvement from the previous season.

Good thread. I don't think I'll be able to catch this game since I'll be on a bus to NYC, but I'll be keeping up with the score. Hopefully the home team brings it again.

Love the thread.

We really need this one
1) after that loss in Philly
2) it's a division match-up
3) for our playoff aspirations

Good chance to rebound and see how the Pacers stack up against a middle seed predicted Bucks outfit. I kinda hope Bogut has a big game but the Ps still win, that way One HD in Aus will use it as thier "bogut game of the week'. :D

How's Hibbert's cheerleading squad going? Wondering how they stack up to Milwaukee's Squad 6.

Division lead on the line tonight!!!!

Good thread. If we plan on getting to the playoffs, gotta win these games at home. Especially when we got swept the previous year.

I'm surprised Indy is only up 2. That's kind of disappointing.

Paul George!

I'm loving the confidence. Sure, he missed 3 in a row, but he's showing he wants to play and create. Way to follow those misses with a nice lay in and 3 point shot.
