Born ready to play next week?

Per Mike Wells-

Stephenson waits

Vogel said there's a chance rookie Lance Stephenson could make his season debut next week.

Stephenson, the only Pacer yet to appear in a game this season, missed time last week to attend the birth of his daughter.

"We talk about it every single game," Vogel said. "(Missing time) set him back a few days, but it could happen as early as when we get back from the break."

Can't wait. He may give us a spark. He's the type of player they can create his own baskets and drive to the hoop, something, that seems impossible on this team besides Paul George.

This is what I want to hear. That and the wins keep coming. Maybe this will mean no Dunleavy.

^^^ If anything it'll be for Price. Based off his role in the summer league, he is a pg. Even w/o dunleavy you have George/Rush/Jones ready to vacuum those minutes.

I can't wait to see what Lance can do, remember he outplayed PG in the summer league.

He outplayed everybody, until he got hurt.

I'm a blazers fan, but I watch a lot of Pacer's games because I love Hibbert. But what's the problem with Dunleavy? He is having a good season , I don't think Stephenson is anything closer to him

If you watch a lot of Pacers games, you'd know how horrible Dunleavy is.

Mike isn't horrible. he's a 6'10" shooting guard. he's a smart player. there are nights where he is dynamite because the other team just doesn't have a player who can stop his catch and shoot game, but yes there are nights when the shoe is on the other foot. that was the case last week when D-Wade took him to school.

in any event, I don't see Lance as being in competition with Mike. Lance should be a combo guard - a 1/2. Mike is a 2/3. ideally he'll make D Jones expendable by being both a credible shooting guard and a good enough point guard to cover those nights when injury, foul trouble, or match-ups make you go three deep at point. could he challenge AJ for the second unit slot? that'd be wonderful but so far two coaches have said he wasn't even ready to dress and we have scant evidence to say they were both wrong.

Honestly at this age Dunleavy should be the backup 2/3 behind George and Granger, let the young guy chase those SG's around. There's enough shooting in the starting lineup without him.

Just to update this, the case against Lance was dropped and he was active for the Detroit game.

Truth be told? I'd like to see him play a game or two and FAIL MISERABLY. Not because I dislike him. Not because I never want him to be good.

But just so everyone will shut the hell up about this 2nd round pick for a while. Let him become a superstar later, but please, let him be awful for a few games.

^^^ I don't think he could be any worse than Price. It's not about Lance's ability, but more about AJ's inability. At no time against Utah did Price resemble a distributive minded pg, unfortunately as a sg he is worthless. Frank needs to bring the open-competition to get the best out of his players.

Lance is better suited, physically, to deal with bigger pgs.

The stat line looked promising for his first 4 minutes of gametime. Anybody with an in-house report?

didn't look lost. tired quickly. had two free throws, an assist, a rebound, and a turnover so he stuffed the stat sheet.

Dunleavy and Stephenson both have rather nice skill sets for their size, with some limitations, inconsistencies, cold spells and some stuff in their heads that's not quite in tune (though they are on opposite ends of that spectrum). I'd see both as VERY solid off the bench guys and not guys I'd start. Dun...at his pay grade...is not good news, but the Pacers can re-up him at quite a bit less and should.

Through five games, Lance is at 8.4 assists-per-36.

^^^ Lance shoudl've had 10 assts last night and probably 8 the night before, we just can't finish the easy set-ups he is providing.

I'm more surprised that he hasn't looked so vulnerable on defense. I won't say he's looked great, but I'll remain optimistic until proven otherwise.

Who is the guy who said Lance couldn't keep up with the D?

(Please Use More Appropriate Word) coaches don't count.
