The Sacramento Kings are closing in on completing a deal that will send forward Carl Landry to either the Indiana Pacers or the New Orleans Hornets.

Landry and reserve guard Francisco Garcia were both held out of the Kings game Tuesday night against the Miami Heat due to trade discussions.

The Indiana Pacers are offering Brandon Rush and Soloman Jones for Landry.

The Hornets package revolves around second year shooting guard Marcus Thornton.

Landry is averaging 11.9 points and 4.8 rebounds in 53 games this season. The 4-year veteran out of Purdue has averaged 12.1 points and 5.2 rebounds for his career.

Im not a huge fan of moving Rush for Landry. But if Stephenson gets a shot and steps up, could end up paying off.

Offering Rush and Jones for Landry would be a steal for us. Nothing against Rush but we already have pretty good wing players, and we could get Lance some PT.

I don't like benching McBob/Hansbrough but Landry could be a very valuable asset to our team. A Hibbert/Landry frontcourt would be sick

Not a fan of this. It seems like Landry would basically be auditioning for the permanent 4-spot for next year. And he also seems to be very similar to Tyler's playing style - a bloodhound for a loose ball with a solid offensive game.

So is it really worth trading away two guys for an audition player? Especially when one is Rush, who has shown some nice things in his time as a Pacer. Especially when Landry could conceivably be available a couple months from now without having to trade for him.

Unless they're really trying to make a deep splash for a free agent, and shedding whatever is left of Rush's contract.

Yeah...isn't Landry's contract up? We could just sign him this offseason without giving up assets if we wanted to.

^^^ Yep, Landry is a free agent this summer. While not necessarily a top option he seemed to be a while ago on this board, he would be a nice consolation should someone like David West, Jeff Green, Nene, Glen Davis, or Jeff Green not pan out.

I'd give Rush for Jason Thompson.

I'm with Miller4ever... no need to give up assets for someone you could get in the offseason.

Hornets to acquire Landry

The Hornets are close to completing a trade for Sacramento Kings forward Carl Landry, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The Kings will receive guard Marcus Thornton and cash from New Orleans. The deal is expected to be finalized on Wednesday.

The Kings held Landry out of Tuesday’s loss in Miami. Sacramento coach Paul Westphal told reporters Landry didn’t play because he was involved in trade talks.

Landry has one year left on his contract at $3 million.

Would Carl Landry really be all that much of an upgrade from Hansbrough/McRoberts? I doubt it.

Glad to see this one fall through for the Pacers. If they want to upgrade at power forward, they need to think big, or at least bigger than Carl Landry.

agreed. we need a 5 who can play 4. Carl is a nice player but he doesn't fit a need now that Vogel has decided that Josh and Ty can play.

The flip-side of that is that we could give up assets for him, and he could walk. Rush isnt the best 2-guard in the league, but he's cheap and developing. I say make a run in the off-season at Landry, West or whoever, no need to panic buy now.

Yes, he would. Landry is a flat-out scorer. He would open up the inside for Roy because teams don't hesitate to leave T-Bo or McBob open to double him. They couldn't do that if it was Landry. Not to mention the better looks and iso's Granger would see, as teams can't clog up the wings with their 4's. Landry would be good for Indy, maybe in the offseason.

^^In that respect, I think teams are learning to not leave Hansbrough alone. His jumper is consistent and goes in most of the time when he's left open.
