Vogel progress report

Post#1 » by Miller4ever » Wed Mar 23, 2011 6:56 am

The man is about to coach his 28th NBA game. Despite the 6-0game losing streak, he still has a winning record of 14-13, and that includes some tough games. Basically, assign a percentage to his chances of coming back and explain.

I personally give him 60% because there are other options, but the players seem to respond to him, his style is solid, and he honestly hasn't shown many reasons why the Pacers shouldn't remove the interim tag. The team is not completely mature yet, and another season is likely needed before the Pacers can start claiming contendership, and a coach to match.

I still feel as though he'll have to make some noise in the playoffs in order to have a chance at keeping that job. I really like the guy though, I hope he stays.

I don't expect any movement on the coach and maybe not even the front office until there is a labor deal. that could be a long time.

I'd put Vogel's chances at 60/40 and I don't consider playoff performance an issue at all. Bird seems to feel he has enough pieces in place to make playoff experience worthwhile but I don't think we're expecting much more than that. unless perhaps you mean avoiding a sweep and I can see that being a consideration.

I don't think we bring him back. He's done a good job but you have to keep some things in mind. 1) If you keep him, you're saying that he is the guy that you want when this team is competing for top 4 in the East. 2) He's 14-13, but look at the victories vs the losses. Everyone jumped on the bandwagon when we beat very bad teams, but with the exception of beating a shorthanded Chicago team and a sputtering Knicks team twice, nothing really to write home about. When we have played good teams, we've gotten demolished. 3) That "good job" he's doing is helped by the fact that he replaced a guy that we all supremely hated. We would have taken anyone not named JOB at that point. By simply not being (Please Use More Appropriate Word) with rotations, we've given Vogel alot of credit. 4) The defense is still horrendous. I dont know how many of those games we have held someone under 100 points but its not very many. 5) Playing Tyler and PG and Lance came from upper management, so dont completely attribute their success to Vogel.

I don't want him back. He's not ready to run a team in this league and it shows from night to night. Likeable guy sure, but not a good coach.
