Ok, so we are going to go into this offseason with tons of capspace to add some players. Something I have noticed since George and Hansbrough have entered the starting lineup is that our bench just is not the same. I think it could actually be a good thing to have Hansbrough coming off the bench because he could absolutely abuse pretty much any other teams 2nd unit. Signing a David West, Nene, or Carl Landry this offseason would definitely add depth up front. I also believe that revisiting the Mayo trade could be a great option too. We could offer our 1st round pick and just take in his entire salary (I believe that is allowed). I'm definitely fine with giving up our first round pick this year for a Mayo type talent. This would give us even more depth and I could see this being a top 6 team in the East next year.

Nene would be a great pickup. Get someone like him and maybe a Battier type guy and we'll have quite a decent rotation. Those two would be my ideal targets.

Add either a mid 1st or Mayo and perhaps McRoberts or a quality backup PG and we're definitely heading in the right direction. I do honestly expect someone to throw a fortune at Nene though.

Nene is the perfict fit around Hibbert and Hansbrough, but I think it'll cost the Pacers 80M/4yr to land him here, since his family and friends are in Denver and also that the Nuggets are playing pretty well after the Melo trade.

If it takes the Pacers that much to land him, forget it. Remeber what happend to the Sixers after paying that much to Elton Brand and what happend to the Clippers landing Baron Davis? Never overpaid a player or the uggly contract will crash you.


As for Battier, I like him a lot. He's a great role model either being a player or behaving off the court. His also a good locker room guy who will affect our young players. However, he's getting older and slower and may not play SG as we think of. I don't think the Pacers have his position if we still have Posey and Dahntay, two good defensive veterans.


What I'm interested in is, what if we don't sign an all-star big man and just play Hansbrough as a starter? Could it be a good choice?


IMO, the Pacers need three main points now.

First, more consistent for the starters. This will need a good coach and our starters working hard.

Next, someone to take over Foster's job. That is a top back-up dirty work in the paint. You could expect J-Mac to do that, or we sign Either Oden or Przybilla.

Third, a scorer for the second unit. The Pacers' bench doesn't score that well since Tyler became the starter. I think it'll be nice if the Pacers have a combo guard coming off the bench. Mayo is a choice to bein the deal. Or we can go after Crawford in the FA.

If Nene gets 20/per the NBA should lockout.... David Lee got 80 mill but that was for six years. Al Horford just got 12 per for 5 seasons.

You'd assume so. That was an extension though. On the open market I can see Nene getting up to or perhaps even slightly more than that (pending CBA).

That's not even possible. Max contract is less than 20 per and Nene doesn't have anything going for him to indicate he could receive more...

About Nene, simply NO. The Nuggets are playing well because of the contributions of Felton, Gallo, Chandler, Lawson, in additon to Nene so the Nuggets wouldnt want to allocate THAT much to him when the cap is likely to be lowered again anyway. Not to mention that your number is totally ridiculous and would never happen in today's day and age.

I think West would be a good fit. He could spread the floor for Hibbert when need be and even take his man into the low post. Then bring Tyler off the bench for some energy/inside offense.

I think Nene could be had for 4years/$45million or 5years/$55million.

I doubt McRoberts is brought back. Somebody will overpay for him probably. I don't know why.

Crawford is probably looking to attach to a winning team though right?
Mayo would be nice, although much rahter see a Mayo and Rush/Lance backup backcourt rather than Mayo and Price, need someone to play defence. Then again, maybe I am wrong in thinking Mayo is a not so good defender?

I love West, but I think Nene's ability to play with both Hibbert and Hansbrough would be a major plus, especially after Hans has turned it on in the past month or two. Until this spurt, when Hansbrough was still a MAJOR doubt to turn out ok, I liked West a WHOLE lot better than Nene. At this point, I'd love either, but think Nene might be a better long-term/maximum value type guy for what we need.

I'd do the 4 yr version w/o blinking.

Remember earlier this season when Roy was playing great, he was energized and passionate. Now he's like a crab coming in and out of his shell. This season I have seen numerous post players knock him off his game simply by intimidation.

Also, I hope we revisit New Orleans with Rush. I could see a possibility where we give them an expiring (Posey), Rush , cap-space for Okafor and their 1st. I think that was the same package before the deadline (- Posey/+Dunleavy).

If Memphis wants back in I'd offer them NO's 1st for Mayo.

Emeka or Nene could blend right in with the frontline.

We have two defensive problems and are just barely adequate in scoring.

Nene's not quite the brute in the middle that Emeka is. But he scores a little more frequently and would mesh well beside any of our front line guys. That makes it much easier to get him the minutes to justify a larger investment in him.
I would be very excited if we got him. I'd be willing to overspend on a guy that fits so well.

But if we're going to spend that much we need to make some real noise.
And we aren't going to do that unless we get someone to put a brake on large point guards.
Too many good teams have an aggressive 6'3" guy who just makes us look bad.

Lock Lance on a ball court with Bobby Knight for a year.
More realistically, target a guy about that size who really likes to play D.

With that guy and Nene we would be hard to beat.

I would be real happy with Okafor, as a second choice. I like him beside Tyler but not so much with Hibb so I wouldn't be wanting to play him starters minutes.
How much would he cost us?
If we cant afford Nene + a good guard I'd get an Okafor, Gortat, Delembert, etc.
...and the guard.
Jason Terry, kirk Hinrich, Avery Bradley ?

Someone like Jason Richardson might be affordable to have at shooting guard while paul develops. He's really a dynamite shooter and is still very athletic.

We could pursue OJ mayo once again. Memphis may even be willing to part with him for our first rounder, since we have the capspace to absorb his contract, or at worst do a sign and trade with mcbob again.

As for PF, it's not as weak as we previously thought, and i'd like to pursue a backup combo PF/C who is a defensive and rebounding presence.

Man someone like Tyson chandler would be perfect, or a brute such as nene.

We have all the financial options in the world, it's on management.

This is a pretty weak FA class, but we can still get some quality.

Part of not screwing this up is not making a move for the sake of making a move though. The worst thing in the world would be following Milwaukees example and signing some overrated vets to bloated contracts. Larry has always been patient with trades, and hates to come out on the losing end of them. I trust larry to get us some quality players with the capspace, provided he sticks to his guns and is patient. An opportunity WILL present itself with the amount of cap we have, we just have to delay gratification, even if it means not making drastic moves over the summer. Tons of players will be available closer to the trade deadline that we'll be able to trade almost nothing for, due to underachieving teams wanting to cut salary. We're in an awesome position, just remember that when thinking about freaking out because it seems like larry is doing "nothing". The CBA could be awesome for us too if it really puts the squeeze on some teams above the luxury cap, and some of their players will be available for almost nothing.

Battier has lost a step. He hasn't played SG for years and,assuming his D is the whole point,he's all SF now.
