Next coach - Rick Adelman?

Rick Adelman has just been ousted as coach of the Houston Rockets. It looks like a fairly amiable split - The Rockets are going into a rebuild mode with their young guys (got rid of Battier, Brooks) and Adelman probably wants to win now and Morey wants to play the young guys and get a high pick in 2012.
Do the Pacers have a chance of hiring Rick Adelman? He'd be great for us - his offensive schemes would fit well with us, I think, and he'd make the most of Hibbert. Also, he's a smart guy who could help Bird plan some of our offseason moves. We could grab Chuck Hayes to bring him with Adelman, solving some of our backup big man situation.
What does everyone think? Is there even a chance he'd want the job, or will he go for a Miami/LA/Orlando/etc and try to win a championship?

Of the teams that will be looking for coaches (assuming the Pacers don't automatically rip the interim tag off of Vogel and at least check out the coaching pool), Indy probably has the best starting block - not counting the Lakers but from what I've heard, Brian Shaw is the heir apparent to Phil Jackson.
But of the team I'd think might be looking for new coaches - us, Golden State, Minnesota, Detroit, and Sacramento, I feel that he'd be able to hit the ground running the best with us. Walking into a core of Granger, Hibbert, Collison, George, Hansbrough, and Rush and considering all that cap space, there's a bright future already.

I saw yesterday that Rick was leaving Houston and the first thing came to my mind was Rick in Indiana. I cannot speak for his entire career but looking at Ricks past jobs that I know of, Indiana would fit the bill. I like Vogel and what he has done but turning down Rick to keep Frank seems awfully ballsy. I believe I read that Minnesota may be or perhaps even have already cut ties with Kurt Rambis. He could be worth checking into as well.

He would be welcome here, for sure.

I'd have no objection to Adelman, but I'm fine with Vogel.
My opinion is that NBA coaching is somewhat overrated. It's a player's league, not a coach's league. If you don't have good enough players, you don't win, no matter who the coach is.
The Pacers should be more worried about the level of talent on the roster than about the coach. Talent level just isn't quite high enough yet, although I like the young core they've built.

I like Mike Brown as a coach but i am starting to really like Vogel. He is a great inspiritator, like a NBA version of Bill Bellichek.

I was never against Vogel, but this last game really encouraged me. Honestly, I thought we'd see a repeat of Philly's Game 2 performance - too dejected to make a game out of it. But Vogel did an amazing job. Hopefully he can do it again in Game 3.

I don't want Vogel to leave now.

the current staff fit Obie but Vogel probably needs some older heads on the bench. you see ex head coaches all over the league as assistants.

I agree 100% with all of this post.

One example of why you rock Mizzou....great post.

Vogel's a pretty damn good coach.
His stepping up as coach did great for the team. Can anyone really counter this?

but I'm fine with Vogel.
He's been doing a hell of a job in the playoffs so far.

^^ Mizzoupacers' post says everything.
That's why i'd rather ask the players first if they want a new coach. They seem to like Vogel.

Our longterm (or hopefully longterm) Pacers should have a say in what happens regarding our coach. If they feel Vogel is right and Rick or Kurt is not worth the time, I can support that. I hope the players do have a significant say so in whatever happens.

I feel Vogel has done a very good job at getting the Pacers turned around in the right direction, but adding a couple different asst. coaches to go with Vogel wouldnt hurt.

Probably saying the same thing as Mizzou but coaches rarely work miracles. You have to look at the talent on the team and establish reasonable expectations. Up until this year under O'Brien this team did what could have reasonably been expected. He was (rightfully so) fired when this year the team was not performing in a way that met reasonable expectations.
Under Vogel this team has performed just about the way a reasonable person could have expected. I think that tells you to keep him.

if coaching doesn't matter, why did all of you want to dump Obie and why did that prove right? why did we under perform under O'Brien and why did Philly turn around under Collins? maybe you can't win without a base of talent but a poor coach can sure screw up a talented team.

If we were to quantify a coach's effect in W-L %, I would say a coach can have a .100 effect on it, but most coaches are around .05.

Coaches matter, but players matter more.
I would rather see Derrick Rose join the Pacers than any coach who ever lived.
