THE SKINNY

Image

After another loss, many are still doubting the validity of the Pacers, who don't plan on losing the next two games. The drama of the series escalated as again the late play and whistles generated controversy in game 2. Now in Conseco, the Pacers hope to play for a majority hometown crowd.

THE LINEUPS

Image

Point Guard
ImageImage
A game-time decision, Darren Collison wants to play, and there is really no reason to hold him out. He shouldn't be counted on for too many minutes, however. Derrick Rose is simply a superstar who continues to confound the Pacers defense. The way he's dominating late in games, the Pacers need to find ways to execute on offense late to close out games.

Shooting Guard
ImageImage
Paul George did an astounding job on defense, racking up 18 deflections, with 4 blocks and 3 steals. He did, however make some rookie mistakes down the stretch that caused him to personally accept responsibility for the loss. He has managed to hang tough in Chicago, and now he must keep up the pressure for a pivotal game 3.

Small Forward
ImageImage
Danny Granger has yet to flash a high-scoring game, and if he were to efficiently score, the balance of the Pacers would be allowed to shine. The Pacers had great scoring in the first game, but the more physical game 2 slowed the pace down. Granger held Deng to 3-13 shooting, and must do an equal job to prevent the Bulls from stealing Game 3.

Power Forward
ImageImage
The most intriguing matchup after anything to do with unicorns is the Hansbrough/Boozer matchup. They were both whistled for technicals in Game 2, and it's getting really chippy down low. Boozer got the best of Hansbrough in game 2, and Tyler played 40 minutes because of foul trouble. After two days' rest, Hansbrough may be able to do more damage.

Center
ImageImage
Roy Hibbert was in foul trouble, notching only 21 minutes in Game 2. He needs to find a way to grab more boards after helping on defense, because the Bulls are grabbing almost 2/3 of the available rebounds. Joakim Noah is one of the biggest reasons why. He's also swatting shots like crazy.

THE BENCH

Image

ImageImage
ImageImage
ImageImage
AJ Price will be more important than ever with Collison's injury. Josh McRoberts is the only player grabbing rebounds comparable to the Bulls. However, his defense leaves a little bit to be desired. Kyle Korver has daggered the Pacers twice in the 4th quarter, and should not be doubled off of.

THE COACHES

Image

ImageImage
Frank Vogel is still as confident as ever, and is massively miffed at the losses. The Pacers were possibly a misplaced cameraman away from stealing Game 2. He has publicly asked that Bulls fans be checked at the door of Conseco, but chances are he'll still have to coach in a less-than-friendly environment.

THE INJURY REPORT

Image

Pacers
Darren Collison: Ankle - Hard to say.

Bulls
None.

THE HEAVY MATTERS

Image

-Fight on the boards. After good help defense, someone needs to be there to clean up the boards.
-Stay out of foul trouble. Whatever there is to be said about officiating has been said. Defend without fouling.

THE TRADITION

I need to stop by here more often!! Great Game Thread

Anyway, I'm going to take this off topic here for a second.

Does anybody want to draft for the Colts in the Packers board mock draft? We'd like an actual Colts fan to do the picking.

I like the way this first half has gone so far. Still a couple minutes left though. We really have not played very well but we have made the Bulls play worse. Carlos just made his first field goal and there is nothing wrong with that :).

Rose apparently felt he needed to yak at our bench...

Rose is 3-9 with just 2 boards and an assist versus 4 turnovers. Deng has picked it up in his place though.

Tyler just took another signature elbow from Boozer...

Granger is being ultra-aggressive as he advertised but it seems that nothing but his jumper is falling right now...

On the plus side, Rose is struggling all-around right now...

EDIT: Rose appears to have lost his composure after being fouled on a drive. Immediately tried to get in the face of Feisty Foster but was a bit closer to eating his armpit. Apparently Rose is not getting a tech for his outburst which I find highly surprising. Has the smell of a star call all over it.

We can't depend on Rose not playing well. Hibbert missed a lot of interior shots. That offensive foul, which was rightfully called, was still frustrating as hell.

Not only has Hibbert missed quite a few shots but we have left quite a few points in transition as well.

Rose is coming alive and the Bulls are shooting FTs the rest of the way. Hibbert got his 5th a few minutes ago but perhaps that is for the better the way he has played tonight. I much prefer the way Josh and Tyler have played tonight. On a positive note, Korver hit a 3 that could have been the back breaker but it appears to have not done so.

Granger looks like he is on fire. He just tied it at 84 with 1:30 lo go...

EDIT: Danny missed as I spoke but Paul George came up with a huge board. It is knotted at 84 with 55 seconds to go...Pacer ball.

Love Paul George's effort right now.
