what do you think of this off season?

my plan for Indian off season:
first of all to make this trade:
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachi ... Id=3r6qqyhIgoudala fit with Indiana intention to succeed right now. with Grenger he could make one of the best wing combo and he complete him very well with his sleshing, defense and passing and could find there suitable role as being a third option.
after this trade Indiana will be with like $38 million in the book, that leave them with like $20 million in cap speace, so with that say they go hard and trying to get in free agency one of those big mans, Nene Hilario or Tyson Chandler with offers of $50-$58 million for 5 years, if neither of them agree to come and instead re-sign with his current team then must settle for Samuel Dalembert but in much less money.
in additional, signing Michael Redd for $2 million, re-signing Mike Dunleavy for $3 million, re-signing Josh McRoberts for $2 million and re-signing Jeff Foster to veteran minimum.
and of course the draft, #15 pick - Trey Thompkins, #42 pick - Demetri McCamey
so there you have yours 2011/2012 Indiana Pacers:
option 1:
Darren Collison/A.J. Price/Demetri McCamey
Andre Iguodala/Michael Redd/Lance Stephenson
Danny Granger/Dahntay Jones/Mike Dunleavy
(Nene Hilario/Tyson Chandler)/Tyler Hansbrough/Josh McRoberts
Roy Hibbert/Trey Thompkins/Jeff Foster
option 2:
Darren Collison/A.J. Price/Demetri McCamey
Andre Iguodala/Michael Redd/Lance Stephenson
Danny Granger/Dahntay Jones/Mike Dunleavy
Tyler Hansbrough/Trey Thompkins/Josh McRoberts
Roy Hibbert/Samuel Dalembert/Jeff Foster

No way would I trade Paul George for Iguodala--in two years I think George will be the better player, and at a fraction of Iggy's salary.
If the Pacers are going to add a wing player, I think they need a scorer who can create his own shot. I don't think Iggy is that guy.

if I'm trading with Philly, I'd rather have Brand than Iggy and I'd rather have Hawes than either.

Im not trading anyone.
I let everyone go but McBob and maybe Foster if its cheap.
And I go after DeAndre Jordan real hard.
Draft BPA try to get Mack somehow w/o reaching.
Hibbert/Jordan/Foster
T/McBob
Granger/Posey
Rush/Jones/Stephenson
Collison/Mack/Price

I see what you're shooting for, but I think DeAndre Jordan has two issues. One is that I don't think he can play next to Roy. The second is that I don't think we're going to want to pay him the going rate for a starting caliber young center (think around $10 million per) to effectively play only about 18 minutes or less per night.
I'm of the opinion that we should keep the team together as much as possible. I think Lance needs to be moved for team chemistry alone, so long as he can't make a miraculous transformation in the locker room and maturity wise. I think Brandon Rush
could be moved if a deal came along that helped us. I think Foster will likely intend to re-sign here, but will ultimately get an offer from a veteran team needing bench help at PF/C (think the Spurs now that McDyess is retiring). I think McRoberts should be re-signed, so long as the price doesn't escalate too high. He's a nice fit as a 4th big man that can play both PF and C here.
Other than those few things, I think we need a veteran combo guard (the guy I keep envisioning is Jason Terry) to come off the bench, or go to the bench shortly after starting to get Paul George out there, and a veteran combo PF/C type player that can play with either Tyler or Roy and chew up a ton of minutes effectively. I saw too many young mistakes in the Bulls series, and I want one or two veterans to fit into roles on this roster and help guide it when they need an experienced voice.

yeah, definitely don't want to trade any of our core. the only players i'd be willing to let go are rush or dahntay jones (and of course posey - see below) - although only in a good deal as both have some decent value to the team. i'd like to see mcbob back at a reasonable salary, and even dunleavy, murphy, and/or foster (especially) at very low salaries.
i'm a bit nervous about what bird wants to do with our cap space. deandre jordan would be a good get at a reasonable price. the free agent class isn't all that great this year (although there's a couple of interesting options), but i think that's not really the best use of our money. i definitely think the best use of our cap space is to trade it to other teams in exchange for prospects (draft picks) to add to our young core. we've got a lot of cap room to absorb a bad deal or two and give immediate relief to the highest bidders (plus another $7 million next year with posey's expiring contract). i wouldn't take on any total dead weight, but as long as player x with a bad deal can contribute and his deal expires in time to start paying our young guys, this is the way to go. for example, absorb ben gordon's contract (bird had a sweet spot for him) in exchange for detroit's draft pick. or absorb desagan diop's contract in exchange for a charlotte draft pick. that sort of thing - there is a lot of value in being able to help a team clear salary.
as far as the draft, i'd love to be able to move up to get brandon knight (a tall pg to match up with rose, wall, etc.), but at number 15, i think a potentially really great player should be available to us in kenneth faried (a warrior to battle noah, howard, etc). this type of player ('undersized' rebounder) has been really successful in recent history (millsap, etc.) and faried is probably the best yet (his college rebounding was comparable to blake griffin). other players i really like in this draft are the purdue guys (jajuan johnson and e'twaun moore), the butler guys (shelvin mack and matt howard), bc's reggie jackson, kentucky's deandre liggins, vcu's jaime skeen, and psycho t's little bro, ben (obviously, i'm all for picking up an extra second rounder).
this is a HUGE offseason for us (maybe the biggest ever). come on bird - you can do it!

I am not sure if this draft class is good enough to be spending all of our free cap space to build a team around more kids. Experience is a massive factor in the NBA and by the time these guys develop with Paul George, who knows if Bird will even still be anywhere near the Pacers organization. And that is IF these guys develop like you'd like them to.
this is a HUGE offseason for us (maybe the biggest ever). come on bird - you can do it!
This is a big off-season for the Pacers, but it's not huge by any stretch. Just like the NY Knicks, they had their massive off-season and they sat quiet besides adding Amare, but they were expected to build a championship team. They stayed calm and got Anthony later in the season. The next 2 seasons is HUGE for the Pacers. The Pacers are still young, and will still make mistakes, and probably won't get past the first round next season. But they need to build on their success of this past year and make the wise moves. If there is nothing there, hold off, and wait for next summer.

The only big move will come from a trade. Interested to see what management can conjure up because we probably not willing to overpay for Nene and with the exception of our core guys (Danny, PG, DC, and Roy) I'm not sure how much value we could package together. (Tyler is the only nice piece that we have available to move)
As for the draft, no one to get excited about. I'd be all for moving the pick to take back some salary or pick up a 1st next year. Whoever mentioned the Purdue guys, you will be disappointed, coming from a Purdue fan. Moore is erratic and cant create much off the dribble and JaJuan doesnt have the strength to match up with 4's in the NBA so I'm not sure why you'd want to pick guys up that dont fit a need. Mack is basically AJ Price with a bit smoother game aka good shooter but only shoots 3's and does not offer much off the dribble. (See Nat'l Championship) As for Ben Hansbrough, get out. Doesn't fit a need and doesnt offer anything that AJ does not.

@ paulgeorge24 - i was impressed with aj in the chicago series - but that's the only time. any of the guys i mentioned would be upgrades imo. i think you underestimate the seniors in this draft class - they are some damn good players.
@ Grang33r - not saying we should use all our cap space, but temporarily 'loaning' it to another team in exchange for a lotto pick would be a good deal - especially considering that the player whose contract we have to absorb would be a veteran. regardless, it is a huge offseason. even if it is standing pat and waiting for a later opportunity. doing the wrong thing is the real danger (such as giving a giant contract to one of this year's free agents).

No, simply said. I watched every Purdue game this year/last year and what I said about E'twuan and JJ is very true. Hansbrough never impressed me either. Please no "high basketball IQ" because he made some really dumb plays when it mattered most. As stated, doesn't offer us anything new, no use in wasting a 2nd rounder on him when we need to upgrade our inside defensive presence. None of those guys would be upgrades much less "IMO upgrades" over any of our rotation players. I'll give you that JaJuan will be much better than Solo though

I forgot Paul George on the depth chart shame on me never want Rush starting over him.
Anywho I know it would be expensive to get DeAndre but I think we could use him and Roy as the big man version of Marc n Travis. Roy gets in foul trouble early a lot too. I think we could go big at times if we needed to say against a Bynum/Gasol duo is we sign DeAndre. Hes an athletic dude but I would still want T starting at PF & DeAndre getting minutes off the bench or situational starts. Hes so young it one thing to overpay Jerome James but to get a 22 year old athletic bigman I think its worth the gamble. He would just add to the great young core we have and everyone would hopefully peak together over the next 5+ years.

if you are right about Jordan's price, I don't see us resigning Josh because his price should be in the same range.

Uh, the two have nowhere near the same value. Josh is likely looking at a 3yr/$10 million type deal, while DeAndre Jordan is looking at a 5yr/$50 million. One is a pure center (which is rare and more expensive), the other does not. One is viewed around the league as an up and coming center to watch, the other is viewed around the league as a change of pace PF that is nice in certain situations, but mostly an end of bench big man. I mean, Jordan put up 7 and 7, and blocked 2 shots a night over 80 games while shooting WAY north of 60% from the field. He's going to get massively paid, just like Erick Dampier, Desagana Diop, Jerome James, Johan Petro, and Brendan Haywood have in recent years (Petro included for the shocking length and guaranteed money for his production level). Yeah, Josh is kind of close to the production, but just doesn't have the impact defensively that Jordan already has on a game.

So Jordan is gonna get 5 years 50 mil? I figured 30 mil for sure, agent could possibly get him 40. Ide probably still be willing to pay him 40 to come here but 50 is prob too much. Man he would be a great addition here.

don't see it. the Clips have never been high bidders and only a handful of teams have cap room to bid against them. of course, a sign and trade is possible to bring more teams into the picture and almost everyone can bid up to the MLE. we're just speculating though and of course we have no idea what the rules will be this summer.

No matter what, DeAndre Jordan is one of the premiere big men on the free agency market this off-season, and will command north of the MLE.

Personally Ide pay Jordan to come here anywhere 5 years 30-40 mil even w/Hibbert and T on the team.
Anything 10+ plus is just too much.

So when Jordan is playing 15 minutes a night and putting up 4/4/1 while taking up 14% of the salary cap himself, what will you think then?

Those are Foster number not Jordan numbers. Guy can play next to Hibbert or next to T. Like I said Hibbert has a little David Harrison in him by getting into foul trouble early and often. You can find 26 mins a game for Jordan easily.
