Very interesting piece despite a little lack of credibility. It gives the top free agents by position, who could be interested in them, and how big of a contract they will likely get.

Some on the list for the Pacers, either at the top or near the top....

Kris Humphries -- 5 years, 40 million: #2 behind New Jersey to re-sign him.

Carl Landry -- 4 years, 22 million (or Full MLE): #2 behind behind New Orleans. David West situation likely determines this.

Troy Murphy -- 1 year, 3 million: Pacers top the list as it does with a few other websites as well.

Josh McRoberts -- 3 years, 9 million: Pacers top list with Dallas, New Orleans, and San Antonio behind him.

Mike Dunleavy -- 3 years, 12 million: Pacers top list with Boston, Toronto, Cleveland, Charlotte, and a few others.

Mike Bibby -- 2 years, 6 million: Pacers are behind Miami and Boston on the list, but I question as to why.

Kris Humphries? Jeez.

I'd prefer Tyler Hansbrough to start ahead of him.

Also, $40 million for 5 years on Humphries? No way. Not a chance. Not even under the old CBA, and zero chance under the new CBA. The owners wanted a $45 million hard cap.... and this guy thinks someone will give him $8 million a season?!?!

The only guy on that list other than current Pacers who I would want is Carl Landry... other than that the others are pretty iffy

Well when they traded Favors and Murphy, Humphries became the full time starter and averaged 10/10 in just under 28 minutes a night.

Plus they say he's one of those rare hustle players that will fight for every loose ball, do the dirty work, and go at it on defense. Sounds like a younger version of Jeff Foster if you ask me.

You're right in that I doubt he gets 40 million, but I think some team will use their full MLE to sign him.

Pacers can offer 4 years at 25 milion or 5 years at 32 million and beat the MLE that most teams will offer these guys.

I would love to see Humphries in Indy. He's exactly what we need - a rebounding pf to complement Hibbert. Though yes, he may not be THAT much better than Hansbrough to be a our starting pf, but i don't think we'll have a problem with that. It's just $40 million is kinda steep.

McRoberts, as I've mentioned in other threads, is a nice re-sign if it's for the right price.

Ditto with Dunleavy.

Kris Humphries - a nice player but DEFINITELY not at $40 million (unless Kim Kardashian is shown at our home games every night.) I don't know. To me, he plays a little too much hero ball considering we also have Roy, Darren, Paul and Danny as other viable options.

Carl Landry, I wouldn't mind, but to me, he's similar to Tyler in the sense of what he does. Offense is there if not as consistently as you'd like. A little undersized but can get you second shots. However, considering David West is entering the season under an unknown CBA, injured and almost 31, my guess is that he doesn't opt out.

Bibby - huh?

Murphy wouldn't be horrible, especially at that price. I wouldn't mind a 2-year contract with an option for the second year. After all, he can stretch the floor from the post, which no one else can do right now for us. Second, he did manage to average 10+ boards his last couple years here, so he is a threat on the glass.
None of these guys are knock-it-out-of-the-park steals. This season, I would MUCH rather go after Nene (if he opts out  ) or Marcus Thornton.

And if all else fails, hold our money and play the flexibility card. With a shaky 2011-2012 season on the horizon and the 2012 potential FA class (Eric Gordon, Kevin Love, JaVale McGee, etc.) maybe holding on one more year might be the way to go if things don't fall our way this summer.

Mike Bibby? Its so confusing, on so many levels.

Anyway, I wouldn't want Hump for $40m, but I'd let him come over for something like $24m/4 years, but I don't think its enough to get it done.

Agreed. He's young, plays hard, and can hit the outside jumpshot. I'd go to $12/4 for him, I don't think its unreasonable.

Disagree, because having watched most games, when McBob is playing well he can stretch the floor from the post. Maybe he's not as good as Murphy is/was, but with another off-season and some tuition from a new coach, I don't see why he can't approach this sort of role consistently. Murphy would be great though, as the 4th/5th big man. I'm thinking he looks for a contender though.

I would like to see Murphy & Dunleavy brought back as bench guys but not at 4mil a year for Mike. Josh I want him back too. Im still all about DeAndre. We dont use the money we're gonna lose the money.

Who am I:
I used to box out my own teammates to pad my rebound stats in college.
Jerry Sloan almost immediately threw up his hands and demanded that the Jazz trade me.
Sam Mitchell threatened to force management to cut me.
I looked horribly clueless and self serving every time I entered a game for the Nets until last season.

Yaym, I'm Kris Humphries!

Are teams really this stupid? Remember the last time that he played well and made a major stride forward in his career? I'll give you a hint, it was the last time he was in a contract year... Sigh... These are the guys that drive me nuts. I cal them the "holy ****, I better do something right this year or I'm out of the NBA" guys.

I have to assume that Bird (as a former player) must look at guys and think to himself, "would I want to play ball with this guy?" If he does that, the Pacers won't give Humphries a look.

I know Humphries AAU coach from way back. If the Pacers sign Humphries I'll tell you my favorite story about him.

Oof, had to get the Hump off my chest there.

Anyone else curious as to why Indy isn't listed as a suitor for any of the shooting guards? Wasn't the Mayo (almost) deal a pretty clear indication that the Pacers are looking to add a scorer in the back court?

I'm all for Marcus Thornton, seems like a good fit for the team given his mid range game and the fact that he can score off the dribble and create a lot of contact at the rim - thereby taking a ton of FTs. Nice complement between Granger and Collison.

So I was perusing Shamsports and noticed that Indiana's going to have a butt-load of capspace for 11-12 (depending on how the new CBA pans out). Who do you guys think Indiana is going to be chasing after?

There have been a bunch of threads/posts about this topic.

It looks like we might just set back and use our capspace in a different way. Indy apparently is not a f/a destination, so we must remain patient, and use our capspace to relieve other teams of their assets. Soon choices will have to be made by all the teams, and many will be looking to shed valuable assets for pennies on the dollar. With the offseason on the horizon the NBA will look to reduce total payrolls. The stars aligned at just the right time for us. Obviously we have a substantial amount of capspace right before the firesale begins.

Teams wanting to target Paul, Williams, Howard, etc. all will be willing to deal a pretty penny to the Pacers for their cap space just to get a shot at any one of these players.

This. As simple as it sounds, seems we get away from this idea quite often.

Keep in mind though, if they want to target the superstars, it will ultimately have to be a sign and trade, and that they also need to maintain a solid enough roster to show talent.

Thus, they can't afford to throw #1's or solid young talent to dump a contract, as they'll have to retain those to send to teams like Orlando, New Orleans, or NJ, so that they can offer the highest contracts with highest raises to the superstars.

^^^ Good point.

I guess the only exception is when a player is unrestricted. Sometimes it is cheaper to acquire capspace, to create some leverage, instead of depending on a S&T.

Besides we're not banking on which contender needs to buy capspace to sign one of the supertstars in 2012. We are really banking on teams like the Wolves, Hawks, Warriors etc.... Teams with loads of talent, that want to create capspace maybe to sign their own, or to modify their rosters as they see fit.

I guess our flexibility could lead us in many different directions.
