Could Adelman be who Bird wants?

I know Frank Vogel is the "leader" but Larry Bird is buying himself some time by saying he's doing open interviews with Chuck Person and Mike Brown, but, yet has even talked to anyone yet. To me it just seems odd. I wonder if Bird is only buying himself some time to keep the position open as long as possible and see if his pal Rick Adelman answers his call? We know he wouldn't even consider us unless he's been told "thanks, but no thanks" from the Lakers, but maybe that is what Bird is waiting for? I'm sure they can still bring Vogel back in as assistant coach.

This from Mike Wells' latest blog -

Bird is thinking about reaching out to former Houston coach Rick Adelman. Adelman is eighth on the all-time wins list with 945.

“I like Rick, he’s done excellent,” Bird said. “He had some many injuries down there (with the Rockets), they had a good team and he still won a lot of games. I don’t know. I’ll probably make a call just to see where he’s at. I hear the Lakers are interested in him. Rick’s a very good coach. We interviewed him last time. He’s a guy that gets a lot out of his players so he could be one of the guys we call.”

A bit of overthinking, perhaps. I don't see Rick wanting to be here, but I would love him. The other head coaching jobs are filling up, and I want to loyally stay with Vogel (or loyally re-acquire Mike Brown (or a step further with Mark Jackson)).

Adelman would probably rather go to Los Angeles and coach a Lakers team led by Kobe, Dwight Howard, and Chris Paul.

Would any of you feel safe betting against that happening?

there are draft workouts coming quickly in Chicago and Minneapolis. that'll put a lot of coaches in the same place. I think Bird wants to take advantage of those informal meetings before jumping to a conclusion. he does say something about Chicago and Minnesota in yesterday's interview although without hearing the question it wasn't clear to me what he meant until I read the article in today's paper.

Adelman is the only coach that I believe Frank would agree to work under as an associate head coach type. Would Adelman even want Frank? If so it could be a perfect three-year grooming process, that either sees Vogel take over here, or somewhere else if Rick stayed.

After the Lakers job, the Pacers are up there in terms of potential. So while Adelman is on LA's short list, there is still a short list.

Obviously, i didn't say he wouldn't. I said, maybe Bird is waiting for Lakers to tell Adelman if he's their guy not before before hiring Vogel.

Yeah this is why Frank Vogal is getting the first AND last interview.
