Fredette Not a Good Fit for Pacers?

Pacers beat writer Mike Wells suggests that Jimmer Fredette may not be a good fit with the team when they select at no. 15 in the upcoming NBA draft.
Wells notes that the Pacers have had enough prospects in recent times that can't play defense, and although Fredette is clearly NBA-ready, he may not fit with the team's current blueprint. He suggests that Tristan Thompson is a much better fit considering he's a tall, athletic shot blocker, and we agree that the latter would look better with the Pacers if both are still available when they pick.

Well, I mean I guess I can see his point, but I don't really think we need an athletic big this early in the draft. We can get a decent one with our pick early in the second round. We don't have a knock-down shooter, especially with Dunleavy leaving via free agency, so why not just bring in Fredette who would be the best shooter we've had since Reggie. Sorry, but I think Jimmer is the perfect fit for us right now.
Thoughts?

I'm not sold on Fredette. I'm not sure he can play point guard, and I'd worry that he would turn out to be a liability on defense. I sorta have visions of him being Sarunas Jasikevicius minus the fun accent.
Could be he is such a great scorer that it overshadows any other consideration. But if the Pacers take him at #15, I'll feel uneasy about it.

I too question his ability to run the point, but why do we really need him at the point? Play him behind George at shooting guard and let him shoot the ball. I mean seriously, why would we not take that kind of a deadly shooter? Sure, at #15 it may be a reach, but then again that's what they said about Hansbrough and he has been looking pretty good lately.

I'm just not sure Fredette will be the great scorer in the pros that he was in college. This is completely subjective, but when I saw Hansbrough play at North Carolina, I thought, "his game will work in the NBA." I just don't have that same sense of confidence about Fredette. Of course I could be wrong. I'm not convinced he'll be bad in the NBA. I'm really not sure what to think about him.

Don't think he'll be the same kind of scorer that he was in college, but he's going to be an amazing spot up shooter. Want to know who he reminds me of? Kyle Korver. Something that Indiana has needed for quite some time now is a guy like Korver who straight up shoots. We'll set screens for Jimmer and just let his shot go to work. I'm excited to see what he can bring to our team.

he's probably not my first choice, but I won't boo if we take him.

100% agree. I think there are other guys that we could draft as better choices but I wouldn't cry about him.
I think it will also depend on other offseason/pre-darft deals.
If Mikey D leaves, if Brush is traded (perhaps OJ Mayo comes in and that may change the situation???) then I wouldn't mind having Jimmer at 15.
That would give us
Darren Collison, AJ, Dahntay, Paul George in the rotation along with Lance and Jimmer.
Brush/OJ are question marks.

At the end of the day it won't even matter what we think of Jimmer because he will be gone. I'm telling you PHO is his floor @ 13, and that's if he gets past Utah @ 12, which he won't.
I love the timing of Alec's dislocated shoulder, not the injury itself, but now he is bound to drop a little. I'm okay with that because I prefer him if we go small.
Burks managed 21 ppg on 14 shots per game, while Jimmer averaged 28 on 21 shots per game. If Burks had shot as much as Jimmer last season he would've averaged 32 ppg.

Have we had Burks in for a workout?
Reading your comment he dislocated his shoulder so will not be working out anymore before the drafts?

^^^ Burks has not worked out for us, but he may have been scheduled, I don't know.
Regardless, if you can't workout you drop. Some are speculating Kemba will drop below Jimmer because he pulled out of a workout against him. We'll see how the chips fall, but yes, Burks injury should cost him a little, it all depends on the severity of it.

I wonder how much his character will factor into it

Leave Jimmer alone. He will win.

You can have him. Jimmer sucks. So does Klay Thompson.

I really think the Bucks could go for Marcus Morris if he's available. They seem to like him. So if Burks slips, he could end up in either Utah or Phoenix. Hope he slips further to no. 15.

Some names that come to mind when I think of what Jimmer could be in the NBA.
Adam Morrison, can't ignore the bust potential. But, I'd like to think from a mental toughness standpoint he's closer to Tyler Hansbrough than Morrison.
J.J. Reddick, pretty similar players at the college level. Jimmer looks like he has a better handle, also better at creating off the dribble, and likely more potential to play some point guard.
Steph Curry, do it all in college guy who was able to convert to the point in the NBA.
MIke Bibby, point guard, great clutch shooter at one time in his career.
Jason Terry, never really a point guard but the ultimate instant offense guy off the bench.
If Jimmer can evolove into something like any of the last three he's a big time steel at 15. If you think Reddick is a worst case scenario I can live with that too.

Not sure why you posted the exact same thing twice in two different threads.

Burks doesn't have a dislocated shoulder its a sprain and he will be gone by the time we pick. If Utah goes pg at third which is highly likely then no way do they take Jimmer at 12. Pheonix has a lot of needs and backup pg is not one of them. They can retain Brooks at a low cost and Jimmer isn't a solid bet.

Is Jimmer the next Hoiberg?
The 'Mayor was a known marksman, but couldn't contribute much of anything else.
Jimmer is a pretty stout 6'2" and seems a little tougher than most of these other prolific scorers, with limited athletic ability, that seem to thrive in the NCAA.
Again, if he is going to be effective, he will have to be a 1. There is no way you can cover up for him on defense if he is a 2. Also, I dread the thougt of a Jimmer/Darren backcourt. Although, if Lance is on the floor with Jimmer it could wash
Drafting a b/u pg with our 1st pick satisfies none of our needs. It's like 3rd on the list of roster priorities. If we needed a 1, who knows, I might see things totally different.
Small: Burks/Brooks/Selby -------------------- Big: Biyambo/Thompson ( I'd be happy with any of these selections).

Jimmer can create his own shot. That alone should really pique the Pacers' interest. We haven't had many players the past couple of years who can do that.
