Question? Trade up, trade down or Pick at 15?

Post#1 » by basketballwacko2 » Thu Jun 16, 2011 8:20 pm

What do you say? Should the Pacers trade up? Trade down or out of the draft? Or Pick at 15?

Every year we see teams doing it moving around picking up players making deals Portland and OKC seem to be the most active. Tell us why you have your opinion and who you want or what deal you think we can pull off.

I'm all for trading down or out of the draft. There really just isn't ANYONE in the draft that the Pacers could possibly get (without paying such a price that the team would regress this year) worth giving up more assets to move up.

IMO just sit at 15 and take Brooks. But if you can trade up without giving up George, Hibbert, or Granger then do it.

No one worth trading up for unless its into the top 3 or 5. I'm for staying pat and moving back if we get a nice offer while still being in position for a wing/guard.

I'm in favor of trading down if it can be done Chicago has 2 picks 28 and 30, could we get them for our #15 if so we could take Nolan Smith of Duke and J. Johnson of Purdue. On the other hand I've thought of trading up what about the Bobs at #9, would they be willing to do a deal of #15 and Posey for the #9 and Matt Carroll? We'd be taking on an attional year of Carroll is the move up worth taking on that 2nd year.

I think it depends on whether Birds guy is there at 15, because we know Larry will pick the guy he wants and I'm ok with that Bird was right about Tyler and George.

more picks lower in the round would be great but I want to trade something other than pick 15 to get them.

Trading the 15 to move that far down would be a mistake. I think Rush could get us a pick from 25-30. And we could buy a pick or try to move up from 42. We spent $500,000 to move up from 57 to 51 for a guy we cut before the season. I'm not worried about Simon spending on picks.

Brooks at 15..... If he is there, it's a done deal.

Eh, don't really care.

Don't be married to any idea. Really, no one should be too off limits right now. Maybe Hibbert, just because of position and fit, but that's about it. Listen to all offers. See what's out there. Don't narrow your sights onto any one particular course of action and let the chips fall where they may.

I've seen some pretty compelling evidence that supports the notion that Portland (21), Dallas (25), & Chicago (28 or 30) might not even want their picks due to salary and roster limits.

I've always maintained that the best way to replace our expiring players is with cheap rookie deals. We don't need to start adding 3 and 4 million dollar vets. This way maintains our flexibility in 2012, when teams will be giving away talent to get into a position to sign marquee f/a's.

I wouldn't be mad if we acquired 3 more 1sts (20-30) & another 2nd.

The Yahoo Mock noted the Pacers as a possibility to trade up to pick four. I'm guessing a move to this spot would require trading Granger, George or Hibbert. Would we give up one of these guys to move to 4 and who's the potential target? Not sure there's anyone projecting at that spot I'd move one of our big three for.

I don't think there is anyone it the draft that I'd trade Granger or Hibbert for straight away and I'm really high on George as well so I don't see us moving up that high maybe to #9. Would think if we are trading we are gonna be trading down, or we could see a player or players traded for a pick and keeping our pick. Would anyone be willing to make a deal with the Bobcats for Diop? Say Posey and Rush for Diop and the 9th pick. We'd be getting a worthless contract and eating a 2nd year beyond Posey's deal, and would the Bobs deal the 9th pick to unload that 2nd yr of Diops contract?

So would you trade Posey for Diop and the 19th pick?

Depends on who's left, but yeah I do it.

Unless we can get Minny's 20 using Rush.

I can't see the Bobcats doing that trade, because the Bobcats really need to do very well with this draft.
Also it would have to be Matt Carroll and Edjuardo Najera for Posey. Need to make the numbers line up.

numbers don't have to line up if the deal isn't official until August. we'll have cap room then.
