Landry Eyeing Pacers

The intrigue grows a bit when Landry specifically mentions the Pacers, but that's a team that's often been linked to interest in West, given their large cap space, desire to add a top-level free agent and a hole at the starting four spot. The Pacers could find themselves setttling for Landry if West decides to stay with the Hornets or jumps ship to a more ready-made contender. His motor would fit in well with the developing ethos in Indiana, and he is likely to come at a far cheaper price, potentially allowing Indiana to spend its cap space dollars acquiring another mid-tier free agent.

Great find.

I think it's safe to say that
the interest is mutual.

But for him to mention
it first, this could put us
in a good bargaining position
to acquire him, when the
time comes.

He's a tough, blue-collar
worker – sort of a Paul
Millsap-lite – which is what
I think we need at the 4.

Guy has grit, as how I'd like
to call it. Let's get him.

I like him as a player, but to me he's very similar to what we already have in Tyler. Defense is spotty, undersized for the four, maybe a little stronger with a similar offensive game WHEN it's on. Would I rather have a Nene? Absolutely. But if we settle for Landry, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world by any means.

For the dollars, age, and injury history; I'd rather have Landry than West.

I think so too. West is going to be more of a risk.

Definitely.

But again, he's too small.

But.. He could actually produce decent numbers with decent playing time.
Let Tyler start and make Landry the 2nd unit PF maybe?

That would be an awesome 2nd unit, IMO, with George Hill, Paul George, and Landry.

Exactly my feelings.

I prefer West, but I'd be okay with Landry.

I'm holding out for someone big enough to play 12 to 18 minutes at the 5 spot. neither Landry nor West excite me.

I would much rather have Landry instead of Josh as a back up PF.

I'm not gonna lie, I'm starting to feel this way as well.

If we can get Landry for 5 per, I'd be interested because that is what you're going to pay for a good b/u. The problem is that we already have a good b/u. We need a traditional PF to take this roster to the next level.

No way Tyler would start over Landry.

I don't think it really matters as I think they would have the same amount of PT.

Well, we all know what Landry is capable of doing and Tyler's still developing.
Not saying Landry's already reached his ceiling but Tyler could actually be better in time.
And unless Landry grow some 3-4 inches more, i really don't see him as a starter for the Pacers.

Height at PF is not a concern for me unless they need to play C.

Landry just doesn't fit our needs very well. If he's the best we can do or we can steal him then why not? But It wouldn't change our team very much.

We would still need a guy that can discourage large 4s and small 5s from using their size to beat or existing forwards and their speed to abuse our existing center.

This is our biggest weakness. Delembert or Okafor solve that with aplomb. Noah! Horford, Favors, Chandler, Josh Smith, Jordan, Nene, Udoh, Varejao, even Hayes would help a lot. Maybe Ed Davis or even Speights or Larry Sanders could eventually do it

Landry? - He's nice depth but we'll still get schooled.

well i believe that's exactly what the Pacers need - a 4/5.
If David West and/or Carl Landry grow to be closer to 7', they'd be nice additions.. but they're purely PF's.

There's no reason why Hansbrough should start over Landry, he'd be a good bench PF

I have thought about this before but realsically you want your starting unit to play at least half the game if not more together. So say Nene at the starting 4 with 30 min. Then he could only play 4-6 minutes at the backup 5.

It sound like a good idea but try to break down the minutes using a 4/5 player for what your talking about. It doesn't add up IMO.

I don't buy your premise that the same players need to be on the court together for substantially all of their minutes. that might be what would result if you brought in a whole five player second unit at one time but that is rarely done in the NBA. a far more normal system is what we did in the Davis days. Smits and Dale started. AD could come for either. when Dale rested, AD played the four with Rik at the five. When Rik rested, Dale played the five with Rik at the four. a three man rotation at four and five works just fine.

depending upon your personnel you can also do three man rotations at the one and the two or the two and the three. Danny, Mike, and Paul did that on the wing for much of last year. I expect George Hill to give us the option to do a three man rotation at the one and two next year. three man rotations are the key to the eight player rotations that are so normal in the playoffs.
