There's a thread on the trade board about Orlando trading Hedo, the guy offered Hedo, Ryan Anderson and Daniel Orton for Posey and Rush. The poster said that Hedo's last year is not garanteed according to Shamsports.com, I checked Sham says that it's not garanteed. So would you trade for this package? Hedo is versital and if his 3rd year is ungaranteed that would make him a pretty good trade chip in yr 2 (2013) at the trade dead line. I like Anderson as a player and Orton is a project.

I responded to that same thread and said that I would. I think Hedo would be a decent piece for us on the court, but I mostly think the deal makes sense on the economics side. I don't think the free agent class this year is that impressive or would put us into the heavyweight class. If we got back some decent assets for taking on a contract like Hedo's then we'd be postponing some of our free agent dollars which I think is a benefit and we could use him as a trade piece next year when he would be an expiring contract.

I'd prefer to get a pick as opposed to these players though (they're both OK). Gaining assets by taking on onerous contracts is what teams under the cap can do and I think it really helps build for the future. In our case, by taking on Hedo we'd be positioning ourselves for cap room again later. Basically, I hope we stay smart about maintaining some cap flexibility to be a part of deals where we get young players or picks for eating a contract. In the present environment there's a minimum salary requirement anyway so it's not costing us anything other than freedom to sign who we want and I'm not sure how much value to place on that freedom. The reality is that any team signing a free agent away from another destination has to overpay a bit. I'd rather accumulate assets and postpone cap room than overpay for guys that don't put us into contention.

Turkoglu is not worth 10.6 million, 11.4 million and 12.2 million(33.2 million) over three seasons.

There's an implication that he waived his player option as a condition of the trade to Orlando. I have no idea if that's valid but my consideration of a deal like this assumes that it is. No one is implying that he's worth the money. That's not the point.

We're in a phase where we are looking to continue to keep our flexibility, and that means not taking on Hedo contracts when Posey is expiring. We are also looking to consolidate talent, even though we have to sign a lot of people.

Speaking as a Raptors fan that followed him in Phoenix as well, unless your coach is willing to put the ball in Hedo's hands as a point forward, he will be disinterested, play very lazy and suck.

Well... if the Magic would also put Dwight in the deal, I would consider taking Hedo's contract.

No, he lessened the guaranteed salary on the last year as a part of his deal to either Phoenix or Orlando last year. It's not fully unguaranteed, and he has $6 million guaranteed on that last year (according to Sham).

Thus, this is a no for me. It'd be nice to net depth in the frontcourt (Anderson and Orton) out of two pieces we just aren't likely to use (Rush and Posey). I'm not sure Orton projects well, and Hedo just doesn't have a spot here with us wanting to max out Granger, George, and Hill.
