It's a warzone out there right now. Marcus Thornton re-signs with the Kings, 5yr, $40 million. Yikes.

Yeah, I'm seeing some crazy sums out there. I hope that we're wise and sit on some of our cap space. It's still good next year. They've talked like this is their plan and I hope they have the courage of their convictions. I mean, Chris Paul and Dwight may see free agency after all. Offer West a hefty one year deal as a trial on his surgically repaired knee and see what's out there next time around. Hmm, maybe a 2 year deal with a team option so he becomes one of those immediately expiring contract the Mavs like to use.

I mean, they had to have known that if you're trying to add big pieces via free agency, which is what our plan was, we had to overpay. And i am ok with overpaying for the right player, but, there is overpaying and throwing money foolishly and that's what they Nets are doing. Nene isn't worth anywhere near the reported deal.
Hope the Pacers have other plans, then just over pay for Carl Landry. Because you know, if we do settle for post-Nene and post-West ideas, we'll still be paying above market value for Landry to sign here. Everybodys value goes up once the market is set.

You had to assume that someone would overpay for Nene... just like we all know that someone other than us will overpay for Jmac.
I think if we can't get West for the price we want, we can get Carl Landry for a fraction of the cost, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Those Nets are going to give a lot for Nene. 4yr/60-65m

Fraction of the cost of Nene and probably West, yes, but still overpay for Landry's value.

we are being penalized by the amnesty clause. It is allowing teams to get out from under there mistakes of recent years...we just waded through all of ours...
Won't we have to spend money to reach teh minimum cap space for this year?
If we come away with Kirilinko and Jamaal Crawford as our two main adds it will feel rather disappointing...really wanted a big physical presence at the 4 like Nene...oh well...small market = little chance.

It's only 2 hours into the market, and besides the players who verbally agreed to deals last two or so days, there hasn't been any other signings yet. Even though Nene to New Jersey is close, that may be the loan signing of the day thus far. So, there is still hope i think. My number one guy to get was David West. Second was to work out a deal for Paul Millsap.
But, while i still feel optimistic that we'll find ways to improve our roster in the upcoming days, i also don't feel as sure about signing a big time PF and a Jamal Crawford. I think some of these guys will just decide to go to the proven winner. They keep us in mind, to see if we'll break the bank for them.
It's just the way free agency works.

Cap space for a team like the Pacers will probably be more valuable when the new luxury tax provisions kick in. In the mean time nothing has really changed. Silly money chansing too few impact players and resulting over pay. Amnisty has made it worse by increasing the money available in the market place. Not sure what that means the Pacers should do.
If the LAL, NOH, HR trade is allowed that would take the Hornets out of the market for West. If Nene goes the Nets they aren't chasing him either. Might that mean we can get West at a non cap killing price? Not sure where the acquisition of West leaves Hansbrough.

We need Rondo. Trade Granger if you have to.

Landry is not even an upgrade from Tyler. Would be a waste of money. Might as well focus on the trade market if West/Nene don't sign here.

That's what worries me about getting Landry. They are both one position players. Not enough minutes to go around.

Well, if Chuck Hayes is worth a full MLE for 4 years, and it would take more than 4 yrs at $8 million per to sign Thornton, I'm ok with standing pat right now. Let's just not be stupid.

If that's what those guys go for what will it cost to keep Hibbert and Hill next year?

God, it's frustrating how many years the Pacers waited for cap room, only to have the amnesty provision **** up what was already a crappy free agent market.
Bring back Foster. Otherwise, pretty much wait another year. That's what I bet will happen from here.
