Pacers Sign David West (!!!)

Post#1 » by Val Holliday » Sun Dec 11, 2011 7:59 pm

Per Wojo

WojYahooNBA Adrian Wojnarowski
David West has agreed to a 2 year, $20 million deal with Pacers, league source tells Y.

Great value if true, and Wojo is quite reliable.

Wow, I don't think anyone could have predicted to get West on THAT good of a deal for us. Incredible!

Now if that OJ Mayo trade goes through, you guys will have yourselves a nice team.
Collison
Mayo
Granger
West
Hibbert

Nice young team.

Coming off that knee injury, David West just hooked us up major w/ that deal. I'm sure he could have squeezed probably 5 mil more per year from us and demanded a larger deal. Two years is pretty much perfect. Makes me think he will ball out of his mind for those two years to make us wanna extended him for more money, after he proves himself.

Hope he and Roy can mesh well together.

Really pumped about this. Only a 2 year deal? Now that is value.

Also excited that Mayo is still a possibility - after his good postseason I did not think Grizz would want to revisit trade.

Though i'd like Nene more than West, 2 years for $20mil is perfect. I expected him to ask for a larger contract but this is a win-win situation for both parties, especially Indy should (knock on wood) goes down again with an injury.
Couldn't be any better. I am a bit lukewarm on Mayo, as he could start over Paul George but it is a good problem to have.

I don't mind George playing with the 2nd unit. I'd like to see him play some in tandem with Hill/Lance/Mayo at the 3. I feel like there is a good chance this is Danny's last year in Indy...but that's another discussion....

This is such great value, better than anyone could've hoped for on paper.

I agree.

West isn't extremely young anymore but he isn't over the hill either. At 31, the length of the deal is perfect. He has always been consistent and with his style of play, I wouldn't expect any drastic dropoff over the next two seasons. It's a good pickup.

Congrats Pacers fans.

GREAT deal for us....if we land mayo, and sign someone to backup hibbert better than foster we are going to make major noise. I still wish we would've got in on that turiaf trade and landed him, he woulda been a good big backup at the 5

Just when I thought we were going to have a quiet offseason. This is great. Whatever big we sign next needs to bring some serious rebounding, though, because it is the biggest obvious weakness of this current roster.

S&T McRoberts for Mayo, sign AK47 & Reggie Evans. Done deal, deep ass team. Legit 4 seed or more very reasonable.

Cliff Levingston likes what the Pacers are doing. It's not enough to get on the top tier but they could easily claim the title of 4th best team in the East behind Miami, the Bulls and Boston if things come together.

A rotation of something along these lines would be nice:

1. Collison, Hill
2. Mayo, George/Hill
3. Granger, George
4. West, Hansbrough
5. Hibbert, Foster

Scrappy and deep team there.

The worry about West though is that ACL. Guys who suffer that injury can come back and play within 9 months but usually it takes about 1.5 to 2 years before they're back in the form that they were pre-injury. Nonetheless, it's a nice signing.
