Still good options out there. Mayo had the youth, but with Hill and PG in there, he was going to face an uphill battle as a starter.

Lakers fan here.
Can someone give me a thorough break down of McRoberts game? All I've really seen are his highlight dunks, but I'd be more interested in hearing about his defense, passing, BBIQ, etc.

He has a high BBIQ 40% of the time and great passing 60% of the time. If you can catch him when they overlap, he's a great passing big man. You can expect decent defense from him as long as his matchup is quadriplegic. His highlight dunks and energy really get the crowd into games and he usually seems to have good timing and spacing. It does say something, though, that a PF-light team would only consider signing him to involve him in a S&T. I don't have anything against him, I just don't think he's as good as a lot of people are making him out to be because of his stats.

How much is the mini-Mid Level exception anyway? I haven't been able to find a dollar figure.

$2.5 million-ish.

Which is actually pretty appropriate. Honestly I thought there would be some team out there that would blow him away with 7.5-8 million a year or something ridiculous like that. There seemed to be an awful lot of interest for a guy that couldn't keep a starting job at PF for the Pacers.

Good for Josh, not so good for us.
It's times like this when I think Bird's patience comes back to get him. Supposedly he had a deal in place, but waited out on Crawford. Now he loses both. If Memphis would have done McRoberts for Mayo with Rush not involved he should have done it and then waived Rush. We would just be over the salary minimum and could sign one more big man.
A little bit of mismanagement IMO. He might going for somebody else tho.

I'm pretty shocked that Crawford turned down 2 yrs/$10M. If he's going to cost more than that I'd rather we not sign him, though. To be honest, I'm not sure why anyone preferred signing Crawford outright to just trading McRoberts straight up for Mayo.

Dammit. This sucks.
he gets signed for 2.5 mil a year? That's a freaking steal. We should have re-signed him on a longer deal, for more money. He would be a valuable trade piece - teams always need mobile big men.
The Mayo deal would have been great. Instead we got nothing. WTF....
Would it be possible to still swing a Mayo deal somehow? Any way at all? cap space and protected pick?

Hansbrough, Rush, and Collison for Conley, Mayo, and Arthur.

Good signing for the Lakers. Odom left a big hole and McRoberts can PARTIALLY cover that up.

McRoberts is a good, young, athletic, big man. former coach O'B tended to sit players because of their weaknesses rather than to find a way to allow them to play to their strengths. he always impressed me when he did play. I think his upside is big and I'm not sure why we didn't keep him although minutes at 4 are probably few and far between with Ty, West, and Foster. perhaps one of our D-League signings is a more capable third center.

McRoberts signed for 2yr/$6.2 million.
Not so bad. I wouldn't have gone any more than that, nor any longer. I'm guessing he wanted a fresh start, and LA, with no Lamar Odom, and especially if they have to move Gasol or Bynum (or potentially both) in deals for the biggest fish (Dwight and Paul, respectively), Josh could possibly be starting, or pulling in 30 minutes a night as the 3rd big man.

3/6 6pts 7rebs(3off) 2ast 2blk to end the 3rd for McRoberts.
Nothing amazing after 29 minutes but logging solid minutes and putting in solid work. Going to miss the small things he does off the bench.

And on cue Murphy knocks down a buzzer beater.
3/5 7pts 6rebs(3off) 1ast after 19 minutes.
What are the Lakers paying these guys? Kinda wish we had both on the bench.
