Now that Eric has been traded(and is already unhappy), any chance we can swoop in and get him a year early before he hits free agency? Thoughts?

That's the first thing I thought when I heard this, that when he hits the market, we can make a strong offer for it and even if the Hornets match, he won't accept their deal, basically he's going to be a free agent, we'll have the cap space, the young players, and the home town in our corner to sign him. I like our chances and think he needs to be a big target for us.

It doesn't matter if he accepts their deal, he's an RFA. He can always sign his QO and become a UFA in 2013. I'd offer Granger and Collison for him right now.

I don't think we can swing it this season but If he says he'd sign a Long term deal I say we go after him in the FA market this coming off seasoon.

I would talk to them about it. Dangle Rush and some picks out there and see if they bite. Otherwise I would wait until he hits the market to go after him. No need to break up our team when we can get him later while still keeping our core intact.

We couldn't give Rush to Memphis, I doubt New Orleans is going to trade Gordon for him.

I think he'd be very happy here. I have personally seen him and have friends that have played basketball with him a couple times. So I know around Thanksgiving and at least a week and a half afterwards he's been in the area. So I think he'd happily come here. I don't know for sure, but it seems like he lives here a lot of the year. But I don't know, maybe he was just home for the holidays.

I didn't mean to imply that the Hornets management would come running for Brandon Rush. I was simply stating that I would gauge interest in the aforementioned pieces and move on from there.

Wrong try again. He's going to be a RFA. If the Hornets match, they keep him.

Well if Gordon just utterly hates it there in new orleans, then he could tell the front office (stern?!?! lol) that he's going to take the QO and then leave - forcing them to either trade him for something, or lose him in 2013.

So what would we offer? Paul George and change?

Granger and Hibbert for Gordon and Okafor?

No, I don't want Okafor. I think Hibbert can be better.

A sign & trade of Gordon for Granger next year would match up perfectly, most likely. Want to see how Granger looks this year with offensive talent actually around him this year though.

Agreed, and this would be so freaking awesome if the Pacers could get Gordon for Granger.

I don't know why this would be such a great deal (if not for the hometown factor). Granger does what Gordon does offensively with 6 more inches. One of the advantages we have now is the size. With Gordon, we'd have a very short backcourt that would struggle a little more defensively.

I know Gordon is younger, but we're at the point where we don't need to keep getting younger anymore.

I wouldn't trade Roy or Okafor straight up either. But, I think value will have to be added to a Gordon/Granger deal. Those thinking Gordon will be an unrestricted free agent in 2013 are dreaming. He will be offered an extention and he will take it. Guys whose teams offer legit extention are almost always accepted. The risk of turning it down is simply too great.

Gordon is just dynamic on both ends of the court. He's a defensive dynamo, and can do everything on offense, including attacking the basket. I love Danny, but he settles a bit too often, and loses out on that part of the game. Add in the age difference, and the fact that we would have our entire core set for 4-5 years, and that is a trade down that is smart for the Pacers.

Yeah that's what I was thinking If George has made progress enough to take over the SF spot then you move Danny and a draft pick for Gordon. We'd be really loaded with young talent and a strong hometown appeal to put the butts in the seats with George Hill and Gordon. I could see Gordon becoming a slightly under sized version of Reggie Miller, so we'll have to wait this one out to see how he meshes in NOLA and if he wants out.

Should be noted I think, Granger is from New Orleans. And Gordon just happens to be from Indianapolis.
