Pacers got Barbosa

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/219795/Raptors_Trade_Barbosa_To_PacersThe Raptors have traded Leandro Barbosa to the Pacers, according to a source.
Toronto will receive a second round pick in return, according to a source that spoke with David Aldridge.
So it seems like we were really out of contention for Crawford, but hey, Barbosa's not that far off in terms of providing extra scoring. Reportedly, the Pacers got him for a future 2nd rounder.
Now, we have a logjam of wings, and Larry said we need frontcourt depth. A second one coming through?
This is a fantastic move.

I like Barbosa, but what are we going to do with all the SG's?
Hill/George/Barbosa
Hill at the point?

I deleted my message to the same effect. now we have two Barbosa threads instead of three.

I don't see this as creating a logjam on the wing. it could push AJ's time though. I see it as giving us a big backcourt option so that teams can't post up DC or AJ when we want to have PG guard the point guard.
I can see a backup center though. Lou has been playing great but he's really a four. ideally a team needs five players who can defend the post and with Jeff F out and Jeff P totally raw, we are short one.

Haha, you guys have two posts on the trade and we already have an 8 page thread on it. Man, we're an obsessed fan base, lol. You're gonna get a great team player and instant offense off of the bench, the dude is a flat out scorer.

My thread was posted first!
But I know how big of an egomaniac Moooose is so I also deleted it.

Love it. Said we should do this over a month ago.
He is an excellent scorer, we only gave up a 2nd and we still have 7 or 8 mil left in cap space.
Guessing AJ Price can kiss his minutes good bye.

AJ has been playing awfully well. my guess is this frees PG to get some of Dahntay's minutes at the 3 but having more options is never a bad thing.
I'm looking forward to this weekend's games with the Knicks. wouldn't it be fun to bring them back to earth after their big first win under Woodson?

If AJ Price "kisses" his minutes goodbye then who backs up DC?
Also, how does this affect DJones???
There has got to be something bigger.... I'm feeling it.
lol at those fans who mentioned getting a 1st for Barbosa.

George Hill?
Playoff roster:
Darren Collison, George Hill(w/ minutes at SG)
Paul George(w/ minutes at SF), Leandro Barbosa
Danny Granger
David West, Tyler Hansbrough
Roy Hibbert, Jeff Foster, Lou Amundson
10 man rotation for the playoffs. I'm okay with Jones and Price during the regular season but Barbosa is better and the acquisition would allow the Pacers to keep Jones and Price on the bench come playoff time. I'd feel a lot better if they were.
And actually, this might allow Hill to be the starter. Hill and Barbosa are similar players, would be weird having them off the bench on the floor at the same time. Would have no problem scoring with them both on the floor though, that's for sure.

If you have never watched Barbosa closely in the past you are going to be amazed. Guy is a special talent. Basically a pure scoring machine.
When your first unit is struggling you plug in Barbosa and watch him go to work. Raps ran their sets around him when he was on the floor. First option. And I think that is how you need to play him. Not sure if that fits well with the team concept in IND perfectly, but I think he can potentially steal you a game or two in the playoffs.
He has been playing extremely well lately and has been healthy all year.
When Larry Bird mentioned IND was going to use its cap space to get some depth I immediately thought Barbosa would be a good fit for you. Glad it happened.

So why doesn't GHill b/u DC now?
Barbosa is good enough to push Hill to the curb but PG is not?

He's not pushing Hill to the curb. He's pushing AJ Price to the curb. We always bring in a full bench of 2nd stringers. Price, Hill, Jones, Hansbrough and Amundson. With Barbosa, Hill can slide to PG...
And Mike Wells just said the exact same thing I said on twitter
Mike Wells @MikeWellsNBA
Acquiring Barbosa opens the door for Hill to start at point guard. Pacers want a scorer off the bench

i can finally accept how bad collison is. never wanted to, always held hope he would become what he was in nola. but after all this time its clear he's not going to. he'd be a great backup to hill. which is where this trade is moving it in my opinion. but i really think there is more trades coming now. i really look for bird to move collision and our 1st(s) and maybe some other pieces for an attempt at a pg upgrade. and still have hill coming off the bench with barbosa. i still think we get kaman before the day is over as well.

espn insider is also reporting the pacers may try to get anthony carter....why would we do that? makes no sense to me at all......
UPDATE: Sam Amick of Sports Illustrated tweeted Thursday that Carter is "likely going" to the Pacers.
With the team also picking up Leonardo Barbosa today, Carter figures to play a deeper PG reserve role for the team the rest of the way out.
---
According to Doug Smith of the Toronto Star via a team source, the Raptors are either going to move Anthony Carter or release him in the next week and a half.
Added Smith: "A desire to use even more youth and wanting to let Carter see if he can hook up with a playoff-bound team if he's eventually released, led to Tuesday's move ... If they can find a taker for the 36-year-old Carter and get some kind of asset in return, a minor transaction is possible."
At 36 years of age, it's no sure thing the he'll be picked up by a playoff-bound team. The Lakers are looking for a point guard, but with a well-below-average PER of 8.92, he likely wouldn't give them much help at the position.

Still one of the most underrated guys in the league. Can't wait to see him in the backcourt with George Hill.
The best part about this deal is that it only costed the Pacers a future 2nd round pick. Unbelievable.
When i saw this on wiretap, i really thought we just traded somebody, maybe Lance. Couldn't believe it until David Aldridge confimed it.
Thanks, Raps fan. You'll be a better team next year with Jonas. I snatched him early in my 20-team keeper league. He's the worth the wait.

I agree there could be more trades. I'm just basing what our roster would look like if this is where we stop. Even if we do nothing else, our roster is a lot better than it was a few minutes ago.
Could we even pull Kaman(14 mil) off? We now only have like 7 mil in cap space and Granger and West are our only big contracts. Would be hard to match salaries

Agreed. I could see the Raptors trying to give him to us but I don't know why we'd try to get him. Takes up the final roster spot.
