Oden?

Marc Stein TWEETS that he's being waived to clear roster room after Portland's deals. I don't know the latest on his conditions. I know he's not available this season and possibly even next season. However, he's still just 24. Should the hometown team sign him to a min non-guaranteed contract and work with him through his rehab? It might build some good PR and if things go well maybe we have a chance to get some actual play out of him at some long-distant point in the future.

I'd sign Oden if the asking price is low. If he's willing to sign for 1 mil when he's ready to play, I'm in. Maybe 2 mil. He's gotten paid a lot to do nothing. I'd be willing to risk it cheap and help him resurrect his career if it benefits both parties. And it has nothing to do with him being from Indiana on my part. He once had the talent to be great. I'd risk a cheap signing regardless of where he was from.

Why would anyone care if you care that he is from Indiana?

I don't care because I'm not hung up on signing former players born in Indiana or players that played for a college in Indiana. Lots of people around here seem to think it's the best idea in the world.

Could care less where someone comes from. Not running a minor league team for Indiana. I just want to win. Just seems like some people care more about signing talent out of Indiana. Dumb imo

Not as much as EJ. You figure after Alford, hometown kids wouldn't be so coveted, but it's easy to be take by the promise of a young favorite. My opinion is every time Oden gets broken, he loses 1 mil in value. So he's at -2 mil right now.

If he's got a hometown signing discount, i'd like him to be with the Pacers.
We have the best trainers in the league, right? Maybe they can do something about Oden's injuries.

His cons seriously outweigh his pros. Basically:

-Still young.
-Doesn't have a left knee.

Other players have proven that you can contribute even without knees, but when you're that tall and damaged, it'll be hard to justify paying him more than 3 mil a year.

I Seriously doubt he'll even be ready to play next season, you're looking more towards 2013-14 and that's with a miracle aka no more injuries.

I'll worry about it then

Phoenix wins this category in landslide.

Don't know his exact situation, but some new opinions from another medical staff ain't gonna hurt him further.

He would really fit in very well with the rest of our core. Very likeable guy and talented.

I can't really remember the exact recognition our trainers got but it was reported just like that. The report was at the start of the season i think.

If I understand his injuries he's had 3 microfractures of the knee, I think I'd reach out to him and invite him to camp, if he's not ready to play then I'd work with him a year or two what is a few hundrd thousand bucks for these teams that spend 60 million on payrolls. Remember Jon Bender yrs after retiring he came back and played for the Knicks, I'm thinking Benders knees were worse than what I've heard about Oden.

With the Mircles of Modern Medicine, we can all Hope Greg gets to play again some day. 8-)

Terrance Williams has been waived now as well. I think I'd rather we used the last roster spot on him for this season.

Oden briefly considered retirement, but is focused on rehabbing in Indianapolis.

Conley says Oden has expressed interest in playing for the Pacers when he recovers.

Definitely worth a shot, especially wen Foster's done.

If he even gets back to 80% of what he was, that's incredible production off the bench.

Blazer fan here. I think the Pacers would be wise to give Oden a look. The guy is awkward, but physically overpowering. I think Indiana would be a great place for him. He seems somewhat emotionally fragile, and i think having low expectations and playing close to home would be great for him. In portland, even when healthy, he seemed to struggle with all of the hype. If he is paid 1 mil/year, those expectations won't be there. He can just go out and do his thing for 20 min/night behind hibbert, and hopefully just enjoy playing basketball. Some Blazer fans would be pissed about his lack of loyalty, but not me. I would love to see him revive his career, and either Indiana (hometown) or Phoenix (miracle working training staff) would be the place to do it.

Definately Indiana if for no other reason we boast some of the best knee surgeons in the country.

wiretap says he will rehab here and wants us to sign him. that'd be hard to pass up if the contract were non-guaranteed against injury. wonder though were Stanko stands. is next year the year to bring him over?
