Roy Hibbert is not a Stiff

GRANTLAND ARTICLE LINKI just saw this and clicked on it. I haven't actually started reading it yet, but it's a nice long article on a major site so it's good to see our boys getting some love.

There's another
article on grantland about the series against the Magic. Seven observations from Mark Titus:
1. The Pacers crowd was virtually nonexistent.
"I don’t want to offend you or anything, Pacers fans, but the fact of the matter is that even the Heat fans are putting forth a better playoff effort than you right now."
2. The “oooooh” thing that fans do for guys with the “ew” sound in their name has run its course.
3. The Magic are more fun to watch without Dwight Howard.
4. I wish there were a way to watch the same halftime shows as the people in the arena.
5. The Pacers are essentially a really good mid-major college team
6. J.J. Redick’s flashes of brilliance make me miss Adam Morrison.
7. I have no shame in admitting that I completely forgot that Roy Hibbert was an All-Star this year.
So much for the love.

What a false article.
The Pacers crowd during Game 2 was recorded at a decible reading of 106 Db
NBA Guru @NBAGuru
Crowd in Indiana hit 106 db on that Barbosa circus shot. To be clear...that is very, very loud.
To compare Oklahoma Cities crowd, on what was considered a very loud night, by the commonly accepted loudest crowd in the NBA was hitting 109 Db
http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/ ... ast-night/Lifeless? I was there, it was anything but lifeless, the fans, and Area55 were completely involved in the game and got very, very loud.

Actually, I read the article instead of just the headlines and it is much more complimentary than just posting the bullet points makes it sound, other than overrating Adam Morrison for some reason and dismissing Hibbert, and he's still wrong about the crowd.
Guy believes we can make a deep run in the playoffs, and possibly upset Miami.

No matter how much work you put into it Roy, you are NEVER going to be considered for DPOY and without a top 3 defense or a top 10 player the odds for the Pacers to become champions are almost zero. Paying you the max will only make it much more difficult for this team to get another capable center to handle all your mismatches.
If Hibbert is not a stiff, who in the NBA is?
He has good skills, a high BBIQ, a great work ethic and great size, but he is a stiff and will always remain a stiff in my book.
So the crowd is too quiet but when they yell "Looooooouuuuuu" it is annoying?
Ok, dude

Have you seen Roy's mobility now compared to when he entered? He was almost Hasheem Thabeet status when entering. Now, he can move much better.

Roy might be a stiff, but Mark Titus is a dick.

I'd say he was worse than Thabeet entering the NBA.
Thanks to his IQ and work he put into it, Roy has much better moves now but still needs the most time of all players to execute them. His size and ability to read plays is what is making them successful IMO

Okay, the article's definition of stiff is not the literal adjective "stiff," but rather an incompetent 7-footer, of which we've seen many of.

I was referring to the literal meaning of the word "stiff", and in an era of hybrid players, people seem to forget that the league were once dominated by pure brute centers, the kind Hibbert is developing into.
And to see him move differently than today's "normal" centers in McGee, DeAndre, and the likes is very much fine by me. I love HIbbert for what he is.
Now, it's hard to call Hibbert incompetent, because his development into an All-Star center is a product of his determination and hard work to improve the flaws in his game.
With that, Mark Titus is still a dick. The only part in his body that gets stiff is his neck.

I think I get it now. Thabeets lack of competent moves makes him a stiff, while Hibbert, who has a bunch of them, isn't just a statue waiting for his teammates to make their moves.

Yes. While he is still a little mechanical and rigid, he is not a stiff as in a corpse.

I love the work Roy has put in. On any given night, he can either be a great defensive force inside, or give you 20 points. If he could continue to develop his passing and offensive vision, he'd be a tremendous player (he's not so bad as-is, though).
The best thing about him is his work ethic. The guy has improved EVERY single year he's been here, and continued to work hard. That's the kind of guy you're ok with overpaying, as opposed to a Javale McGee.

Moondog, as in, of the "Coronation Ball"?
If not, who's Moondog? But yeah, other than Kyrie, it would take Tristan + this year's lotto pick for Cleveland to make a trade offer for Hibbert. He would be a great long-term piece for them, though.

Oh yeah...
I wonder if he's named after the ol' "Moondog Coronation Ball" (i.e., the first rock and roll concert in history in Cleveland by Alan Freed)?
