I want to talk about....
Jeff Green. I would think we need some front court depth as evidence by this Miami series and what happens when West and Hibbert go out. Now I know Green isn't much as far as size goes, but if he's at the 4, couldn't he stretch the floor out with his shooting ability, and clear the lane for DC or whoever to slash to the lane? Just an idea I had.
What other things should we focus on going into the offseason? I'm think that a back up big has to be a priority for when Roy is out. I'd also like to see a legit scorer for when the offense because stagnant and when we have those scoring droughts.
I think it's clear we've gone from "We need a superstar PF and PG" to now just needing solid role players, cause fellas, we can still win a title NOW.

Re: I want to talk about....
This year's PG crop is great. After Deron and Nash you still have Goran Dragic, Ramon Sessions, and Jeremy Lin.
We have a draft pick with which we can gather some talent with, although it will be like 25th. Obviously Eric Gordon's name is also mentioned a lot on this board and if he can be had reasonably, then we should explore that option, but to me it's riskier and will probably end up not being worth it. I'm the hometown wet blanket, though.
Long shots like Duncan and Garnett who will stay with their franchises would be perfect off the bench.
Spencer Hawes would be a solid big who can score and has C size coming off the bench.
We could go for Boris Diaw, sign Nash, re-sign Lou and Leandro and just run the Suns off our bench.

Boston and nothing because he'll be an unrestricted free agent.

Yes. That's exactly why I brought him up. And not playing all year this year, perhaps he can be had for cheap.

Miller: At this point, I've cooled a ton on EJ, I like Granger and George, and having EJ come off the bench is just silly from a talent and value standpoint. I love the idea of Hawes, but I don't really like our chances of getting him. But I think he'd be perfect behind Roy. Of course I'd love Nash, but I'm so happy w/ George Hill, it's hard for me to admit to myself I think that Nash is so much better even though I know he is lol.
I just really love our team.

Re: I want to talk about....
I agree we need front court depth but I'm thinking a rookie rather than a free agent. Actually, we might need one of each as we need a 5 and a 3. I'd go BPA in the draft and sign the other as a free agent.
I'm much less interested in resigning Barbosa than I was three weeks ago too but I have my fingers crossed that Lance will be ready to get some backup back court minutes next year.
I'm assuming they don't plan on using Fes as a backup center next year or they'd be dressing him now ... although the plan could be to bring him to camp but tell him he has to lose some weight if he expects to make it out of camp.
current mocks suggest that at our pick we'll have some centers (Melo and Ezeli), at least one PF (Nicholson) who played both 4 and 5 in college, some 4's who may need to move to 3 (Draymond Green), some 3's who may become 2's (Crowder and Miller), and some 2's (Taylor, Jenkins, Lamb, and Cunningham). and you know there will be one or two players who are projected higher now but will turn out to still be there at 26. I may be kidding myself but I see a lot more reasonable choices at 26 than usual. I'm thinking we'll get someone good enough to push Leandro, Dahntay, Lou, or Tyler for PT depending upon his position. then we can look for a free agent to push the others.
all this of course assumes we spend whatever it takes within reason to resign Roy and George H. if we can't do that, everything changes and we play our cap room card. if we can, and Paul G progresses as we all hope, I see no reason why we can't be in the hunt for the number 1 seed in the east next year with 55 to 60 wins.

Nash would be no threat to George Hill's minutes. he'd just move him back to shooting guard. that might make Paul play more three which might make Danny play some four but that's all good.

Re: I want to talk about....
Wiz if we had Nash on this team I think the starting 5 would have to be Nash, George, Granger, West, and Hibbert. Rotations may set it up like how you've said often however.
As far as a rookie for backup bigs, I would agree with you before this post season started, as in it'd be a place for a kid to grow, but IMO, we are competing now. I'd want a legit, NBA ready and savy guy for moments like this Miami series. I think a rookie would be great for teams still building, but We are ready to win a championship now, and next year.

Re: I want to talk about....
well if KG wants to come here for under 10mm, I wouldn't turn him down but I don't want to trade out of this year's draft because I think there is an unusual amount of talent beyond the lottery picks this year. I favor drafting first and looking for a free agent second and that's the way the calendar works but if it isn't tampering to listen to agents for free agents before the draft it wouldn't upset me if we had a free agent in mind and drafted not the BPA but the BPA who plays a different position from the free agent.

I agree with that, that's a perfect strategy I think.
Wow, KG here as a back up 4? I doubt it would happen but I'd be all over it.

Re: I want to talk about....
Our window for competing the way we are now is like 5 years. If we get a vet, I think it should be for that amount of time.
Also, Nick Young as a scorer off the bench? I'm really liking that idea, although he might be priced higher than Marcus Thornton last season.

Seeing the lackluster passing and ballhandling in this series, I really want Steve Nash.

Re: I want to talk about....
No one wants Steve Nash here more then me (im from Victoria BC) I just dont know if I see it happening. If he wants to go to a contender LA or Dallas makes more sense, if its just money he will stay in Phoenix.
Do we re visit Jamal Crawford? I think a player of that type makes the most sense, along with an upgrade at the backup C position. Other then that I dont see us making any big moves unless we are shipping out Granger, which im not sure how I feel about.
Even if we make no moves and resign essentially the team we have and keep our draft pick, George and Hibbert's natural development should make us a better team next year.

Re: I want to talk about....
Two things i like about acquiring Steve Nash:
1) He would make everyone better in this team with his playmaking, notably Paul George and Roy Hibbert. Nash will definitely enhance and mold Paul George into the star he's going to be. Hibbert's post game could also flourish with a good point guard.
2) We are only one good vet away from getting better. We don't need another major change. We can get depth from the draft, but we need someone who will push the young guys into maturity like what David West has been doing. Any other good FA vet would do, in my opinion. But adding Nash would be the best option.
I see us retaining Lou. Barbosa could be instrumental in bringing in Nash. I believe his contract would depend on that, but nonetheless, we need Barbosa, he's a good fit.

Re: I want to talk about....
A question about Nash: How does his poor defense fit into our defensive team? Will team defense cover his holes? With Rondo, Rose, and D-Will in our conference, he may get torched.

Re: I want to talk about....
Ball movement and sharp post passing is our biggest weakness.
Steve Nash is the best passer in the world.
Hill is about as good a defensive compilment that will accept a back up role as you'll ever find.
Hibbert will look TWICE as good being fed by Nash.
All our guards will improve and learn from him.
Get Nash (and a backup center an inch or two bigger than what we have)
and we will contend next year.

Just say NO to Jeff Green. Take it from a Celtics fan who saw their nucleus get destroyed because Ainge traded Perk for Green.

I always thought it was a good trade, just happened in a very wrong time.
