Draft Night Trade Confirmed By Mike Wells

So. Mike Wells was just on 1070 the fan on the Grady and Big Joe show. He said he has it directly, I'm guessing from Bird, that the Pacers will either trade up and have a top 10 pick next week or make a big trade and trade out of the draft completely.

Thoughts on the pieces that might be moved, picks/players coming in, either way?

I really see us moving possibly granger, something, and 26 to move to top 10 and take Kidd-G or trading collison, 26 and? for a sign and trade for mayo. We all know Bird's had a hard on for him for 2 years

That would be horrible. Remember, they already agreed to Josh McRoberts, but now that Mayo is restricted he has even less value because the Grizzlies have indicated they won't match offers. Mayo can be had for nothing but the capspace required to sign him, no need to give a single thing.

collison also had another avg season, still hasnt been what he was in NOLA. mayo had a really good year. and a good playoffs. i think we def resign hill, and adding mayo would be a guard who can play the 1 or 2 along with stephenson who can play 1 or 2. both off the bench.

We could probably just sign Mayo outright with our cap space, there's really no need to include Collison or the pick which could be moved for another asset to improve the team if need be.

My guess is that they want Fab Melo, he must have made THAT kind of an impact.

Only problem is he would likely be gone by #26.

They don't have to jump far to have him though, probably no higher then the Celtics pick at #21.

But if they should lose out, my guess is that they are gonna try and trade to teams with multiple 2nd round picks like the Cavs, Wizards, Portland, Detroit, etc.

Edit: Wow top ten pick? They must be looking at a George or Granger trade. Sorry totally misread the lead post.

I wouldn't trade PG unless we get #1 back. Granger makes more sense to trade.

Mike Wells

I don't think it will be at number 26. They won't have a pick or they're gonna move up

This could just be his opinion. But he also thinks Lance should be 6th man. He's a smart man.

Could be taking on a bad contract. A really bad contract.

Whatever the potential trade could be, i am seriously hoping it is not in the level of an 'overhaul'.

I don't see us taking on a really bad contract until after Bird talks to Herb. I can say Larry wanting to push the payroll up toward or past tax land to compete with Miami but not without permission from Herb and since they haven't met yet I don't think he has any such permission now.

that said, I'd love to go after Gasol or Garnett and if the rumor has us doing something before the draft, maybe it's Gasol. that's the only high dollar player I see out there that would really fill a huge need for us. Lakers need to dump salary and have no draft pick at all. well okay, Howard.

If the Pacers land Fab Melo; It could be a key addition to making Indy a contender. The dude has Tyson Chandler like athleticism. Hes a 7 footer that can play the 4 or 5 and would do wonders for our fast lineup off the bench. NO teams would match up well with them. They would just have to improve individually and collectively especially with ball movement. Hopefully they deal Collison over Granger.

Starters Bench lineup
Hill /Stevenson/Price
George /D. Jones/Free agent
Granger /George/D. Jones
West /T. Hans/F. Melo/Pendergraph
Hibbert /F. Melo/Fesenko/Pendergraph

Wells always seems pretty accurate, but Bird could be purposely sending him on a wild goose chase, just to stir up awareness.

Maybe a trade is imminent, who knows. I do know one thing, the anticipation never decreases, it actually increases with age.

Targets:
Darren Collison- Trade for a pick somewhere in the 15-20 range. This would allow us to draft Melo before Boston snatches him. I have a feeling this guy could provide that strong defensive presence we lacked in the post.

Danny Granger- If Granger is traded then I think Collison goes with, or maybe Hansbrough. Since this trade includes a pick, I'm thinking a package consisting of Granger + DC or TH could net us something in the 4-6 range, and another promising young player. I'm feeling Sacramento is a logical partner.

Tyler Hansbrough- Tyler could be on the block, maybe for George Hill's brother from another mother, Dejuan. Utah would probably be interested too.

Maybe Pritchard doesn't shoot blanks like Morway.

You have to be careful not to trade up too high to get a guy like Melo. If you draft him too high, with expectations too high, he turns into a Desagana Diop.

I'd imagine if Collison is moved for a pick, the target would be a guard.

I agree. I think it's pretty obvious the most blatant need is a backup swingman (combo 2/3) that could actually play some offense. Sure, an upgrade at PG would be nice, but would take a major deal for Rondo or pure luck in Deron or Nash. As would a long-term upgrade at PF over Hansbrough, but West is looking good for now.

Maybe Lillard is the guy. I can't imagine it being Lamb unless Granger goes. Still, seems all speculation to me at this point.

As I see it the team most motivated by cap space is Dallas. Obviously not a top 10 pick but you could certainly get Melo there. Seems to me at that spot you could do a good bit better than Melo.

Hence why I like Wroten. Guy is a 6-7 PG, but has the shooting touch of a small forward. Guy can play PG, SG, and SF with time.
