Indiana did not offer a max deal, and Hibbert is now leaning to Blazers unless Pacers match. One other unnamed team offered max.

Geez. I really hate to think of it, but are we really expected to match Blazers max offer?

Really crazy I'm a Raptor fan but like what the Pacers did this year. I like Hibbert but not for the max and thought he would resign something in 10 to 12 range for 5 years

If Larry is still in charge, he would probably say no instantly because he takes the conservative approach knowing that Simon doesn't really want to spend a lot. But now we have Donnie and Pritchard running the team, and with Bird still a consultant, i have no idea how this is going to be.

I'm shocked the Blazers would make such an offer for him.

Same here. It seemed to me back in the draft that you'd be giving Meyers Leonard every chance to develop as your future franchise center. I'm hoping it's just a rumor but Sam Amick is a reliable guy.

Sounds like Hibbert has agreed to a verbal commitment to Portland's offer. So, its either Indy or Portland.

Guys, the max that Portland can offer is something like 4yr/$58 million. A max contract if WE offered it would have been something like 5 yr/$78million.

We let Portland set the price lower than we would have had to. We'll match it. It won't permanently hamstring us as we have West coming off the books this year and then Granger the year after. We'll be ok.

We certainly aren't going to let him walk for nothing.

Meyers is a project. Like he won't be ready for more than about 10-15mpg for 3-4 years. This is, coincidentally, about the same length as Hibbert's contract would be should you guys not match.

It's still big though, $14.5M / year. But yes, i think we're going to match it, Walsh and Pritchard, said bringing the free agents back would be a priority. Can't wait to see that other team. Dallas?

I think Pritchard matches, he was our old GM and probably has a chip on his shoulder after being fired. I don't see him letting Portland steal him from you guys. I think he's worth it for Portland. LA and Hibbert would be devastating in the front court.

He matches it, but I don't think its about his history with the Blazers. KP was a smart man and I think what the Blazers did to him is the least of his concerns. He's working on taking the Pacers from a mid-level team to contender status and retaining Roy Hibbert is one of the things that will help accomplish that.

if you decide not to match Hibbert, do you trade West's expiring contract?

KP knows how it works. He did the same thing to Utah with Milsap.

Interested to hear Indy's fans perspective on the rumor that they're now looking at other options? My guess is that they're trying to get an idea of how much a serviceable replacement would be because if it's not too expensive they'll strongly consider letting Roy walk.. I think a lot of these C's will be overvalued though leading to Indy just matching the offer.. Unfortunately.

I don't read much into us talking to Asik's agent. if we keep Roy, we still need a backup for him and Asik at the right price could be better than Plumlee or Fesenko.

I can't imagine the Pacers won't match. They had to know someone would make Hibbert a big offer. I think they were probably prepared for this.

I just hope Hibbert will be worth it.

So, I'm assuming we will match. How much does the max we can offer hibbert matter at this point? If we match this max offer does that mean that we have to pay hibbert the max portland can offer or does it mean we have to pay him the max we can offer? Because if we only have to pay him what Portland can offer then to me it's a no brainer.

Indy would only have to pay what Portland is offering.

Also, Jhern, I read on the Indy star that one of Indy's FA priorities was to find a back up center, so them looking at Asik does not seem to indicate they will not match Portland's offer.

Figured that could be a possibility .. Thanks for the info.

After the year Hibbert had, the Pacers HAD to know a offer like this was coming from someone. I have to imagine they've already made up their minds about what to do when he got a max offer. Maybe the shifting of the FO in Indy might have changes things a little bit, but I doubt it. I'm glad to see Portland being aggressive in going after the clear cut best FA C available, even with him being restricted, but sadly (for Portland) I fully expect the Pacers to match the contract.
