HoopsWorld '12-'13 Pacers Season Preview

Post#1 » by SuperReggie31 » Tue Sep 25, 2012 8:57 pm

It’s time to continue to build on last season. We have our same core group back and are ready to take the next step. To do that, we need to keep our focus on playing inside-out. We know Roy will be a beast to stop inside. But Roy – Can you be more willing to make that pass out when the double teams come? If so, we know there will always be players around you, like Danny, Paul and George, that will knock down shots. We have too many good offensive pieces to not be one of the best teams in the league. With a focus on execution and making the extra pass, we can get there. Let’s let our offense be our driving force and see where it takes us.

Predictions Settled?:

The Best New Addition: Once again, the Pacers had some money to throw around this summer, and they did some nice things by digging around the bargain bin. D.J. Augustin will play a significant role on this team as the backup point guard, but other acquisitions like Sam Young, Ian Mahinmi, and Sundiata Gaines should also prove to be nice additions, as well.

Sounds like the author sees Gaines sticking with the team (Young is a lock).

Well, i think Young should be a lock considering his resume, which fits the mold we want in our guys. Him and Paul George are good passing lane readers and he's a good addition to our perimeter defense.

Gaines on the other hand, is quite underrated, having worked his way from the D-League. He's got more experience than Ahearn and the other camp invites. He'll be a good 3rd string PG.

I think we made some nice pickups for the 2nd unit, Sam Young should be good and Green, Mahimini, DJ as well, I don't know about Plumlee but he's cheap, and Olando Johnson was a steal in the 2nd rd on a bought pick.

I really don't see a spot on a 12 man roster for Young although last year you could have more active players in the first part of the season and I've yet to read whether that will be repeated.

1) Hill, Augustine, ?
2) George, Stephenson
3) Granger, Green
4) West, Hansbrough
5) Hibbert, Mahinmi, Plumlee

Inactive) Pendergraph, Young, Johnson

Now if Stephenson is both the 2nd two and the 3rd three that opens a spot, but I read that Pendergraph is looking good so maybe he'd grab that spot ahead of Young or Johnson,. it would also open an inactive spot for Ahern or Gaines.

^ I think Sam Young could get a chance to be in the rotation as a back-up to Danny. Green will come in for Paul George and we can shuffle that wing position with ease. Stephenson would play the combo guard role, i think.

Green is 2" taller than Young which suggests he is the backup 3 not the backup 2. also, in MIke Wells blog piece about bringing Granger along slowly he quotes Vogel as saying Lance has the inside track for the primary backup at 2 and is challenging the starters for PT. if Young makes the roster at all, it will be as a sort of Dahntay Jones defensive specialist replacement but I don't think he makes it to the top 12.
