Kinda OT- Thoughts on flopping rule?

Will it work?

I heard on radio the other day that the NBA will probably not even announce any fines for players who do flop. It will be done in closed doors. So, there really will not be any way that we, the fans, or the media, can even keep track of the system. For example, in the rules, they claim after the 5th violation, you may even get a suspension.

To me, it seems kinda subjective. If these violations are all private, how do we know that, for example, Chris Paul, who is a legit flopping star, actually got fined? Maybe he got 2-3 warnings? Maybe he got a $5k fine and then another warning?

To me, i think theres just too much loopholes here. Announce it, maybe at the end of each week, like release a a list every Thursday night a list of the previous weeks floppers.

Thoughts?

the players union is going to protest saying that the rule needed to be bargained. sounds right to me.

I think the NBA would be a lot better place with an anti flopping rule. I'm not sure about out of game fines, but instead of letting them flop and draw the foul, let the play continue or even call a foul on the flopper.

This would make me a lot less angry when we play the Heat every year.

I would love this less if we still had Reggie....

This is what interests me.

Because while the union is going to protest it, the union reps work for the players. And there has been a lot of players who have spoken out about liking this and supporting the NBA's rule.

How can the union try to block something when so many of it's members are pro the rule?

it is a matter of procedure. the union is saying you have to talk to us before you can impose a new system of fines. the union doesn't want to waive its right to insist that fines be supported by provisions in the collective bargaining agreement.

personally, I think Kobe and others are right to suggest that flopping should be a technical foul rather than a fine after the fact. I also think technical fouls should count as personal fouls but that's another subject.
